"For We Are" is the second track I made for my upcoming album, TBA.
This is the first time I am intentionally writing pieces that should fit into a bigger work, realizing a single vision.

I'm still figuring out how far I can go with changing keys, instrumentation, and the overall feel. I want this to be a really tight fit, where every song has its place and meaningful impact in the overall composition.

Having said that, this might be the furthest I’ve swum from the shores of Vanishing Waves. While Vanishing Waves had a very important melodic motif, this time it’s purely a rhythmic experience.

This piece reuses some of the same instruments—the subtractive bass, the white noise textures, the piano, and my favorite FM presets I made. 
But it’s also the first track where I used granular synthesis, something I’m excited to integrate more into my soundscape. I also created a lovely Mellotron sound, which leads the whole experience.

I’m still learning how to write pieces in a major key—remember, before 2024, I only wrote music in minor keys for over 15 years. I'm glad I’ve finally found a way to enjoy these intervals and patterns in an honest way.

A few more months, and the album will be ready to set sail.

Some songs carry a spark that lets you know from the very beginning – this one is meant to be something greater. Shimmer was born the moment a simple chord progression met a random plonk in my work pattern. When I shared it in our Discord, it already felt like something bigger was unfolding.

Grant instantly connected, telling me: “I can hear myself singing to that.” My answer was simple: “I’m not going to stop you, my friend.” I sketched out a rough mix idea and then left for a work conference in the stunning landscapes of Sorsele, up on the mountain of Nalovardo.

Listening to my mix idea of Shimmer on repeat against those endless horizons was an experience beyond words. We even stumbled upon a bear during one of our hikes. That whole weekend, the mountain imprinted its essence into me – the air, the silence, the raw presence of nature. One of the photos taken at the very top of Nalovardo now accompanies this release, forever tying the music to that place. When I got back home on Sunday, I knew exactly what to do: capture that feeling and weave it into the track. I even layered in some of my recordings from the trip.

That evening, Grant’s vocal files arrived. At first, I hesitated – his take brought Shimmer into an entirely new space. I let it rest overnight. The next morning, hearing it again, I realized it was exactly where the song needed to go. Something was still missing, though. It finally struck me: Shimmer had to carry the soul of Nalovardo – the echoes of me humming while walking those trails, and even the memory of a Sami guide trying to teach us consultants how to joik.

This is not just another track. It’s a journey born from serendipity, friendship, mountains, and moments you can’t plan for. And while this version carries Grant’s voice into the cosmos, Shimmer also has a second life waiting. The instrumental – shimmering in its own light – will be revealed at a later time.
