PREMIERE ✺ Local Group - Quantacid [DDTX003]

Dayshift co-founder and Chinese Laundry resident Bouki is on the cusp of releasing his long-awaited debut EP 'Studio 5'. Featuring a series of five tracks proudly written and mastered in Gadigal Land/Sydney's Rikota Studios. The EP is a clear and confident ode to the context in which it was written, featuring the studio's monitors by local audiophiles Translate Audio, and in Rikota's own colour scheme.

'Flow', premiered here, is a large and bumping collaboration with Naarm/Melbourne-based producer Trustee. Punchy 808s are matched with a wobbling bassline paying homage to Bouki's UK heritage.

Of the track, Bouki shared:

“We’ve made a few tunes together now and had initially intended to put another one on the EP, but 'Flow' came together very naturally during two sessions when Tate was up visiting last month and is our favourite track we’ve made together so far.”

Bouki performs this Saturday, September 6 at Chinese Laundry to launch the EP alongside Trustee, Bella Bella and fellow resident Obeido.

'Studio 5' is set to release with a new single every fortnight, until it drops in full on Friday, October 31.

Right so, this is one of those moments where we absolutely do not care how you came to be reading these words, or listening to these beats. However you got here or heard of us or heard about this release then we welcome you. You went looking for something out of your comfort zone, maybe you went a long way out of your way to find this, or maybe this is exactly the kind of thing you stumble across first thing when you open the app because you're always looking for something like this and you knew where to go find it. We welcome you all either way and you we hope enjoy what you hear.

For seven years now, from our hometown of Dublin, we have been putting out a string of singles, EPs and a couple of compilations, finding new friends and exciting new voices along the way to push and promote and platform in every way we can. Between the main label output, the Texture and MMNTM series, the various compilation EPs and all the rest we have built this thing up to be a platform for adventurous uptempo bass music, not just from Ireland but from all over the world. We've had releases along the way from producers from Hungary, Australia, the UK, France, the Czech Republic, the United States and even a few from Cork. This album is a reflection not just of our sonic roots, but of the ties of friendship we have built with people we respect all over the globe. From Pixl's dexterous and meditative 'Sacred Visions' to Brain's moody, cerebral rumblings to the maximalist wall of Amens of Microcosm's effort we believe there's something for absolutely everyone here, and we hope these tunes and the other absolute weapons on the LP bring you as much joy as they have been bringing us here at inHabit HQ.

This is an album that has been carefully curated to reflect where we are as a label right now. It is the culmination of seven years of hard graft, good energy, adventures in mad places with some amazing people, incredible parties, disappointing parties, a whole-ass pandemic, highs, lows, triumphs, failures, the works. If you have been a part of this journey with us, in any capacity, from releasing a tune, to booking one of us to play at a party, to staying behind and helping to lift a soundsystem into a van, to blagging your way onto the guestlist, or even just to putting an inHabit sticker in the jacks of your local pub then this is a fine opportunity to send each and every last one of you a massive thank you and endless respect for the support and the friendship. Play these tunes as loud as you can from Dublin to Durban and from Donegal to Dunedin, to all of your friends and to their friends too, and make friends with the friends of the friends of your friends, because there's nothing in this world that makes living in it more bearable than the good energy created when people come together in a spirit of positivity to dance to the absolute freshest tunes imaginable, and making the bassbins of your favourite soundsystem flap like an old man's pants on a stormy old day. 

João Oliveira a.k.a. Null started to mix and produce in his teen years, constantly searching for his own style and since then, he never stopped. Over the years, his biggest influence has been minimal tech-ish deep vibes found in many genres. Nevertheless, it was when he found Bass music, like Dnb and dubstep, that he finally found the sound that allows him to create music that speaks to his heart and soul.
