While the term ‘feel good tune’ is thrown around all too often, every now and again a record comes along that achieves this nearly impossible feat. The melody of ‘Step Into Your Light’ is pure energetic fire, while never being cheesy. Natalie Angiuli matches the tone perfectly with her sweet vocals, and the result is one of those magical moments that many could attempt, but only Joey Dale & Ares Carter could pull off.

First appearing on Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’s sub-label Generation Smash in August last year with the dubstep-tinged banger ‘Solid’, Belgium born DJ/producer Brieuc quickly made it clear that he means to make a mark on the imprint. Following up with ‘Sweat’ at the back end of last year, the highly regarded hotshot drops ‘Leaving’ as his first GS effort of the new decade. 

Dropping in with a radio-ready female topline, delicately balanced keys guide warm, blossoming synths towards the tune’s pinnacle. Straddling the line between a radio and a club track, the bigroom flavours and pulsing low-ends reflect the creators acute appeal to contemporary dancefloors. As such, with the likes of Yves V and R3HAB supporting ‘Sweat’, and label bosses Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike constantly behind his output, it seems Brieuc has a real knack for capturing the attention of electronic music’s upper reaches. As we enter a new decade, he’s certainly one to watch.

A little over 2 weeks into January, and with already a string a red-hot releases from upcomers such as Grimix & Nick Havsen, Skemaddox and Vigel & Aryue, Generation Smash maintains its position as one of the most important platforms for new talent in electronic music. Add to that forthcoming releases such as ‘The Anthem’ with Timmy Trumpet on Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’s main label Smash The House, and it becomes clear how the DJ Mag Top 100 poll’s #1’s continue to stay on top.
