it used to feel like a fairy tale
now it seems we were just pretending
we’d fix our world 
then on our way to a happy ending 

then it turned out life
was far less like a bedtime story
than a tragedy 
with no big reveal of the hero’s glory

and it seems we weren’t prepared
for a game that wasn’t fair
  
do we just go home?
can we follow through?
when all hope is gone
there is one thing we can do

day by day and not be conquered by our sorrows

Estúpida Canción

Rispah, the sophomore album by The Invisible and their first for Ninja Tune, is out now.

The album, "a love letter to grief” following the passing of singer Dave Okumu's mother, is imbued with an inevitable melancholy but defined by a sense of hope. Throughout, the band reveal their rich creativity and musicianship. Echoes run through these songs of African music (including beautifully-woven-in samples of the singers from Okumu's mother's funeral), psalm tones and devotional music, In A Silent Way-era Miles Davis, hints of minimal classical composers such as Steve Reich and the wilder more psychedelic end of hip hop and related electronic musics. 

Nothing is ever included for the sake of it, no attempt is made to patronise or sell the audience short. It's a record brimming with real emotion and restless intelligence, a record to get lost in.

Lizzie Ball - Libertango

Imagine this: You've spent the last weeks on an epic quest filled with adventure, danger and magic. You've succeeded at completing all the tasks and have finally reached your destination. You've just opened the door to the Chamber of Lux.

You see a magnificent room spinning around you. You're in awe. You've never seen something so large and beautiful. The room is filled with ancient items, knowledge beyond comprehension. But you need to find one particular object to complete your mission. You search everywhere you can. But it's nowhere to be found. Then you find a chest at the back end of the room. You notice a figure standing by it. You recognize him instantly, it's the white wizard. He welcomes you with open arms and congratulates you on the journey you have just completed. Tells you about the heroes that have fallen trying to accomplish what you have done. But you made it. And with this last thing that you are about to do you will become one of them. "You will become a hero. You will live forever among all the other heroes." He says this pointing to the glass dome above through which you can see the night sky with all the stars. 

"There is no going back from what you are about to do. You will no longer be human. You will become one of the gods. Are you sure you're ready to take on this responsibility?" You contemplate this final moment. Do you really want to do this? Are you ready to end this journey? Yes, you must. It's the moment you've been waiting for. You open the chest and inside you see the final missing piece. You put all the pieces together, and as you do that, the world around you starts changing. The new formed element starts transforming, changing into something new. Everything around you starts shifting. You begin to float higher and higher. Eventually a blinding light emits from the center of the room...

Lux - Epilogue

Nuno began his musical education at the age of six under Maestro César Batalha in his native Lisbon. At fifteen, he discovered his passion for the classical guitar, and two years later, completed the first level of Trinity College of Music. 

He moved on to the electric guitar, which he continued to study assiduously while completing his degree in Industrial Engineering and Management at the Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon. Not wanting to abandon his musical aspirations, he attended a summer program at the Berklee College of Music in Boston during those years. 

After graduating, Nuno began work at AudioPro, a renowned professional audio dealer, where he learned the fundamentals of studio gear. He then went on to work for Electronic Arts, where he was a language tester.

Knowing that music was his true passion, Nuno decided to return to Boston to pursue a degree in Music Production and Engineering at Berklee. There he graduated with honours in 2009.

Since finishing his studies at Berklee, Nuno has been involved in projects ranging from jazz to indie-pop, tango, and Middle-Eastern-influenced fusion. He spent time in Los Angeles observing Kevin Shirley in the studio and collaborating with Pablo Munguía on several projects, including the 37th Annual American Music Awards and the 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards. In addition, he assisted in the production, recording, and mixing of parts of the Red vs. Blue: Revelations soundtrack, and is an active participant in remix contests on Indaba Music, where he has been awarded several honorable mentions. 

Nuno is always looking forward to the next challenge and is looking brightly for the future!
