Junge Junge & Redward Martin's 'Here' gets remixed by David Hasert & Jannis Klimpel, and A Thousand Lives. This latest Get Physical Music package follows previous remixes by Rockin Moroccin.

German duo Michael Noack and Rochus Grolle are big-room dance specialists who have released on majors like Universal Music and Island Records. Back in 2023, they linked with American vocalist Redward Martin for the superb 'Here'. Now, this single is revisited for a second set of remixes.

First up are DJ, live act, LIKE Records founder and Kompakt associate David Hasert, who is a key figure in his native scene in Cologne, and here works with Get Physical man and fellow Cologne native Jannis Klimpel. Their version is primed and ready for the dancefloor, with prickly breakbeats powering it onwards. Plenty of soul comes from the elegant piano chords that dance above the busy beats, while the well-treated vocals add further layers of emotional depth.

A Thousand Lives is a duo that also hails from Cologne and is well known in melodic and Afro-house circles for its sophisticated and heartwarming sounds. They flip 'Here' into a signature affair with rising and rousing electronic drums marbled with textured synths that shapeshift and bring both tension and release. It's a widescreen cut designed to make a big impact, with chords adding scale and vocals making the breakdown even more spine-tingling.

Welcome back to The Chapel.

Today I will play out my top selections from the nu-disco charts and explain the history behind this prominent sub-genre in the electronic scene today. 

For starters, lets take things back to the original influence of Disco, which emerged as a vibrant genre in the late 1960s and reached its peak around 1977. With two strong decades of releases, the world saw a revolution to remember. From there, we have the basis of what nu-disco derives from. In the 21st century, Nu-disco, also known as disco house, came to life. It’s characterized by a renewed interest in those late 1970s disco, early 1980s Italo disco, and funk providers. Nu-disco combines classic funk vibes with modern electronic dance sounds.

What are those components you may ask?
Drum Groove:
- Since nu-disco is a dance genre first and foremost, the drum grooves play an essential role.
Live Instrumentation:
- Unlike some other electronic genres, nu-disco often relies on live instrumentation. You’ll hear funky basslines, guitar riffs, and perhaps even brass sections. 
Synthesizers:
- Nu-disco embraces the legacy of the 1980s, so expect lush and nostalgic synthesizer sounds. 
Arrangement:
- Nu-disco typically follows a song structure reminiscent of classic disco hits. You’ll find multiple breakdowns, verses, and catchy choruses. 

Remember, nu-disco emerged in the late 1990s as a response to the nostalgic revival of disco in the UK and Europe. Its smooth, groove-driven sound continues to captivate listeners, bridging the gap between the past and the present.
