For many years, Admiral Wesley Holmes has been traveling space, saving aliens, fighting wars and protecting the innocent from the evils of outer space. He is a master strategist and problem solver who is an expert in close-quarter back to back mixing. The Admiral, as he’s affectionately called, pioneered the radical process of turning sound into useable energy. The hero of the battle of Ganymede against the dreaded Cyborg Noodles. Known as the Uniter of Callisto for negotiating the peace accord between the Techno Rompers and House Cybergrind. The Admiral possesses all of the cunning and willpower of a true hero. Wesley Holmes has been integral in the Northwest’s DJ & dance community for the past 25+ years. He was a part of a core group that pioneered the house music scene in Seattle and helped provide a foundation for the thriving dance scene that transpires in Seattle today through an extensive list of club/event productions, residencies, radio work, and behind the scenes efforts over the years. Wesley’s abilities behind the decks, musical depth, and outright love for underground music resonates through his infectious dj sets and mixes. Wesley’s current residencies with Flammable, Lost and Upper Left keep him both on the front edge of the underground and in front of some of the largest electronic music audiences in the NW.

If you ever wondered what a vocal house set from me would sound like... here ya go!  It's a bit fast, due to where I was left off and how well that was working I did not change ;)
 
This set is from the genre, "FUN" - was played live at the FUNderware party at the historic Eagle House in Eureka days ago :)
 
Playing a closing set after Jphlip starting in the wee hours of the morning seemed one of the larger challenges I could take on.
 
Why do I say that?  Well we know that Dirtybird is such a popular brand that in smaller towns it's some people's whole concept of house music.  It's funky, it's dirty, it's easy to dance to.
 
But not so easy to follow with another style.   Thinking of what from my arsenal would work I decided to explore my more vocal, funky side of house and see what happened.  I got really into this, pulling tracks from the past decade or so that fit the mood I wanted to create.
 
Spent a lot of time on the playlist and I'm glad I did.  Cause here's what happened...  I even went on a half-hour late, at 4am, which really worried me.  But the dancers did not look tired :) So I danced a bit more to Jhlip and Marjo on the 2 x 4, promised that we did not have to end on time at 5. 
 
I got into my set rt away and people were vibing.  About 5:15 someone showed me their watch, said it was getting late or something (I can't understand much behind the booth). I thought maybe it was someone from the venue, but then the dude walked onto the floor and started dancing which was confusing.
 
But it was getting a bit thin so I decided to wind up my set at it's original 1.5 hour length and stop at 5:30
 
Either the dancers smelled this, or they just really liked where the flow was going, but they just kept coming back to the dance floor
 
I got to my final track and the floor was full.  Nobody was telling me to stop.  I got to about 1.5 minutes left in the track and decided to mix out.  You can here this in the mix at 1 hour 34 minutes in.
 
You will notice I made the executive decision to play another hour :) . I was really having fun with the music and happy to continue.  Eventually I did outlast the dance floor, and wrapped it up.  
 
Oh, also towards the end there was some dude who either was trying to get on the decks , or else to get me to play a track from his usb.  Let it be known the answer is always no.  If you are not on the lineup you don't play.  Period.  And I have plenty of my own music, I don't need random extras.  Thanks.  
 
So I guess another part of going til the dance floor couldn't handle it anymore was actually protecting the dance floor against some rando trying to get on the decks at the end.  Happy to defend dance floor integrity anytime :)

Live @ The Breakfast Club 2021

Nurse Noise specializes in cross-genre booty-shaking, bass-heavy, good-time feeling beats. She believes the attitude behind the decks is just as important as the music selection and mixing. With a background in performance arts, you might find her dancing on speakers to get the crowd going.

Nurse Noise is the co-founder of a unique live dance and DJ collaboration called the Venus Groove Collective. She is also a part of the Angles of bAss all-female DJ collective. During the COVID pandemic, Lee-Anne has been coordinating online streaming events on Twitch for 2-day events with a crew-of-crews (seven different DJ collectives) called Unison. Unison creates celebrations with importance on generosity by raising money for chosen beneficiaries. Additionally, she contributes to the 3 Degrees and Friends 'n Family communities that actively throw campout festivals. 

Starting her DJ career in 1996 in college radio at KSCU and then KUSF, Nurse Noise had a prime-time radio show for seven years called "The Treatment Show". Gradually she worked her way onto the decks through her Burning Man camps: Magic Glasses, Coda, & Illuminaughty.
