Club Late Music and Morsel are happy to present a new addition to GUN-X __ a series of releases that enlarge the processes of collaboration beyond the borders of the Global URL Nation. For each project, members of the GUN community collaborate with members from another collective or label - exploring the results of cross-pollination and pooling across the global ecosystem of electronic music.

After an edition with Heel.zone in 2020 and with Hide Productions in 2023, we warmly welcome Morsel from the UK ! Morsel is a Manchester based label and arts platform inspired by literature and folklore, exaggerating the mysticism of our urban environments. Launched in 2023 only, their very just and sensitive approach convinced us instantly to extend the series with them.

For this one, Morsel wrote up a poem, which would serve as the primary source of inspiration to create a new track by musicians from both extended communities. 

It resulted in 17 tracks from Antonia XM, Bademjan, Clair X, Cralias, Dj Würm, Eurrope, excel dj, Flegma Joe, Griigg, Hajj, HR boat party, Ice_Eyes, Junior XL, Locre, Lucy Grey, Lukann, Older Brother, Pithe, Tobey, Yaka, Yauhei ASJ & Ziyiz.

“Never In My Born Days Did I See Such Night” is a collective exploration and experimentation into poetry as inspiration for composing music. The album oscillates between a sombre, dynamic landscape through a selection of heart-felt ambient tracks to bass driven club rhythms, mirroring the dark melancholic yet heavenly imagery painted in the poem. 

The album opens with angelic trance-like soundscapes decorated with glitches and robotic vocal elements that lead to a heavenly chorus of rich pads and textural field recordings. This feeling of euphoria is confronted with the latter half of the album drawing inspiration from deconstructed club music, flitting between sub basses and broken drum samples. The sludgy beats gather energy through the closing tracks through euro-dance-esque synths and electro-inspired drum patterns where they are met by the final track; an experimental collage of textures, computerised dialogues and dystopic sound bites that draw the compilation to a hypnotic close.

The release also comes with a zine of written contributions, which were inspired both by the original story, and by the tracks of the compilation, with Andres Komatsu, atrophene, Brice Reiter, Charlie O'Brien, Diana Serik, griddyeyes, Griigg, Ifuseekamy, julie nicol, Julieta Colantonio, l'autre champ d'eau, Léo Dubois, Le Spieman, Luz de Amor, Naledi Chai / Pillow Man, Older Brother, RAVEN, Solstice, & zozo.

The zine experiments with concrete poetry, broken narratives and long form writing as a response to the sonic landscape of the compilation. The collection delves into themes of longing, self discovery and hope through a textural lens reflected in the soundscapes of the album. Visual elements accompany the text facilitating melancholic narratives through depictions and arrangements of words, collage and graphics supporting the project.

For one year, all proceeds of the compilation will go towards Medical Aid for Palestinians. After that, the release will be proposed as Name Your Price, like all our other ones, and benefits will be reinvested into CLM & Morsel for upcoming projects and functioning costs. For his sixth 96 Back LP, Evan Majumdar-Swift found himself writing “a long form eulogy” to his years living in Manchester while preparing for an imminent move to London. Initially intended as a series of technical exercises, which saw the artist radically stripping back his established production setup, over the last two years tender, exit gradually took on the form of an emotional landscape, mapped in transit between two cities. “The overarching concept of the record is cycles, recognising them, loving them, and tearing yourself away from them,” he says. Heard together, the project takes on the pace and cadence of a passionate conversation with a loved one.

96 Back - Vicious

Vessels of Chaos is a musical tale - an ode to change and reconfiguration. Set in a crumbling lorescape, it explores primitive forms of collective organizations rooted in material reality and its associated imperfections.

It takes the form of a double EP, released on MONTAGE and Over My Body.

Both EPs explore different directions with similar structures. Seen as complementary, they explore the use of voice and organic noises as source material to craft hypnotizing soundscapes and cathartic rhythms. Infused with paleofuturist imagery, they imagine new forms of communities, beliefs, rituals and worships - cherishing communion, shifting perspectives and internal transformations as ways to situate ourselves in the emptiness of existence.

Celestial Tears blends shimmering textures with vast soundscapes, distilled with ethereal winds, heart-felt melodies, and astral cries - for a blisscore contemplation of serenity to be found in impermanence and infinity.

Mercurial Blood combines muddy subs with cavernous vocals, mutilated by fractured beats, rough textures and crystalline hits - for an abrasive harshclub exploration of friction as an integral part of dynamic change.

Vessels of Chaos marks Griigg's second solo release after Action Replay (TAR, 2018) and is to be taken as the direct continuation of Interbeings (Club Late Music, 2019).

It embodies the conclusion of a years-long change in his creative process for something much more raw and spontaneous, to lay new foundations for his lore and practice. As a convergence point between his previous works, it explores ways to be with the world by crafting abstract landscapes and immersive tales - seeking the sublime in chaos.

I've been approached for this through a mutual friend; the brief was to score an animation with electronic music that accompanies schizophrenia and hallucinations - after some discussion I decided to go to a more demoish beat-driven rather than a strictly cinematic approach.

Nusasonic is a multi-year project that plunges into a broad spectrum of experimental sound and music cultures in Southeast Asia, enabling dialogue within the region, with Europe, and beyond.

Adopting a multi-perspective approach, the project is collaboratively created by Yes No Klub (Yogyakarta), WSK Festival of the Recently Possible (Manila), Playfreely/BlackKaji (Singapore), and CTM Festival for Adventurous Music & Art (Berlin).

Nusasonic is an initiative of the Goethe-Institutes in Southeast Asia.
