This is the atmospheric title track from Ben Goldberg's trio with guitarist John Schott and double-bassist Trevor Dunn. Nuscope recorded this trio to compliment the beautiful Junk Genius quartet recording on Songlines, which featured drummer Kenny Wolleson. The engineer was the reknowned Cookie Marenco.

Almost Never

This is a track from nuscope's best seller, Impressions of Monk. This recording, which features Georg Graewe with double-bassist Marcio Mattos and drummer Michael Vatcher, shows how free improvisers with a structural bent can tackle jazz standards and make them sound anew. The recording was featured in Downbeat Magazine's Hotseat to rave reviews.

Evidence

This is the closing track from Light's View, the only recorded duo document with saxophonist John Butcher with pianist Georg Graewe. This release was recorded at the Akademie der Kunste in Berlin, Germany where the late playright and author Samuel Beckett frequently directed German versions of his plays.

Lumen

This is a track from a very unusual and highly successful meeting with double-bassist Barry Guy, flutist Robert Dick, and multi-instrumentalist Randy Raine-Reusch (perhaps best known for his work on The Ladder by the prog-rock group Yes). 

Jupet Backagain

This is a bracing improvisation from Subsymbolism with pianist Georg Graewe, double-bassist Marcio Mattos, and drummer Michael Vatcher. This release is from the same session that produced the Impressions of Monk recording.

Certainties

This is the closing track of Belgian pianist Fred Van Hove's Passing Waves, recorded in Chicago on a quiet Sunday afternoon in May of 1997. Parts of this release are very different from much of Van Hove's output and sometimes seems to indirectly reference 20th century classical music.

This is a gripping track in hi-res from the brand-new disc with clarinetist Isabelle Duthoit and pianist Georg Graewe titled Parlance.

Transparence I

This is the opening track for the next nuscope release titled In Formation Network with saxophonist Jon Iragagon, trombonist Joe Fiedler, and guitarist Todd Neufeld.

The inspiration for this recording comes from similar projects from John Zorn and the late Jimmy Giuffre, but takes the concept to new musical destinations.

This is "Bigger Tree," the second track from Achim Kaufmann's new CD titled Mnemon. After the superb CD titled Later (Pirouet), this is a return to a less jazz-oriented release that defies easy labeling.

Bigger Tree

"Barely Curve the Water," from Unhesitating with Georg Graewe, Damon Smith, and Michael Vatcher, is a stunning example of a free ballad improvised in the studio. The session is approximately a 50-50 split between compositions and free improvisations, and highly succeeds with both approaches.
