This one I wrote many moons ago, deep in the waters of change ~ originally amid the most excruciating realization that it was time to leave.  Though no leaving has ever been as hard as that one, unwelcomed knowing has risen in my soul many times, carrying pain while ushering in a greater wholeness.

Unwelcomed Knowing

So excited to share, It’s Time!  This song has three versions now (I guess that’s because it speaks one of my biggest lessons in life).  Each version is totally different musically but begins with the same lyric: “Somewhere along the way, I bought the line that says, “You’re supposed to be a woman who is strong, for everybody.”
It was my producer, Danny Madden, that envisioned this more upbeat version and who added the amazing bass line.  Recorded at Bass Hit Studios with master engineer, Dave Darlington; Cindy Mizelle (also featured in the video) rocked out the background parts. (Cindy brings vocals like none other!)

This May, 2024 recording fills my new-release-a-month commitment!!! Recorded this version in Las Vegas with producer Greg Radford @gregbass69 (also did Road Mirrors) with my sis, Diane Spann @dedae9, joining me on vocals.   LaTreice Branson on percussion and Sunny @sunnydeedrumma on kit drum...two amazing womyn who I recorded in Philly @turtlestudiosmusic.  Last month's release, "It's Time" grew out of these same lyrics (I told y'all that there's a bunch of versions) This version is definitely closer to the original (still to come)  ENJOY!

Yeah, this one was recorded on the top of the mountain, just me and my laptop. Not even a keyboard. It just had to come through. Later I recorded the studio version that came out on my 2021 album Spirit Fuel. I still love the vibe of this one though.💚🔥￼June, 2024 song-a-month release

You Are Not Alone_Aug 2024

I put some beats to the words of Early Quaker, Isaac Penington (1616-1679): "Give over thine own willing...."  These words have been a beacon for me through many years: "...Sink down to that seed, sown in thy heart...."  I've sung the melody acapella in many settings.  Now, to set these words (taking some poetic license) to this rousing beat has been a blessing and big fun.  There was an English rock band where I first heard the lead melody.  Can't remember the band's name but I bow to you as I release this version.  This arrangement and all of the vocals are all me.  Enjoy my September 2024 New-Release-A-Month: Give Over! Eight years ago, after the 2016 election, I wrote a piece called "But Why Must We Have These Tears?"  This time, I land in a very different place.  This time, what poured forth: "I ain't got no Tears this time!

Violinist, Tim Reynolds (amazing) joins me on this—my simple and purest vocal performance.  This is my December, end-of-year offering. I sang each part spontaneously and without any retakes because I wanted to allow it to come from my heart through my vocal cords, just so.  When I re-member these simple lyrics, my body relaxes, my heart opens and my mind quiets.  Blessed Holidays Dearhearts ~ Niyonu
