After memorable parties in Canterbury and Leeds in May, and with even bigger plans forthcoming for Lancaster and London, the arrival of that glorious currant bun in the sky can coincide perfectly with the release of our first official Guest Mix. 

Stepping up to the plate to launch our series of Guest Mixes is none other than long-time friend Beach Justice, who has forsaken his more dancefloor-driven attitude to bring us an absolutely sensual slice of mid-tempo funk that trawls the length and breadth of his vast musical ordnance. Representing Leeds-based collective 78 Assassins, Naigella has addressed a marked lack of "proper" techno on our part by promptly providing us with the fearsome nine minute monochrome masterpiece that is SYMR (Something You Must Respect). Demonstrating a remarkable grasp of music technology and acoustics while channelling hugely revered and respected influences such as Marcel Dettmann and Kyle Hall, SYMR sees Naigella roll out a deadly medley of glacial synths, stern samples and a masterly crafted pervasive kick that both anchors and leads the way. Things have been seriously heating up at NVWLS HQ too (not just because of double glazing) thanks to an especially packed summer calendar - having seen the launch of our sister night Consonants at Concrete as well our Free EP series turning ten, and with our first birthday already rapidly approaching, it's been all sweltering systems go inside the NVWLS machine. Never ones to wuss out for a break from the dancefloor however, we're delighted to bring you the antithesis of a lazy day in the sun in the form of our lucky thirteenth thumping Guest Mix.

One of the key players in a passionate and devoted movement dedicated to attracting quality dance acts to the city of Lancaster - a movement which culminated in bringing Yousef and Rolando to play a packed out end of term party in a converted friary - Alex Dunhill has become a man synonymous with the drive, ambition and raw power of techno music. A motivated muso with remarkable experience on either side of the decks, Dunhill has amassed a daunting armada of pulsating big room rhythms inspired by the giants of European tech house - his mix for us, symptomatic of his epic expansive sound, stars Mario Basanov, Trevino, Petar Dundov and Dixon among many others. We at pioneering party starters NVWLS are something of a modest bunch - we're often too busy igniting the blogosphere and smashing the dance to celebrate our own humble talents. That being said however, for the long awaited NVWLS/K EP we thought we'd wonk up the formula a little by inviting our own resident producer to pull together some original beats of his own and some of our exceptionally talented friends and family to provide their own classy spin on his offerings.

When he's not trying to steal Charles Barkley's talent or having his head blown off by the Men In Black, NVWLS' own YEPIMNICK happens to be a refreshingly original beatsmith. Having come on leaps and bounds since providing a tune for the very first NVWLS EP way back when, Nick has matured into a musician with a fascinating ear for both loyal hat tips to pioneering sounds, and genuinely exciting new ideas - an ear no better exemplified than by the Save It EP NVWLS are delighted to showcase.

Offering a bold new spin on a vocal made famous by Willie Hutch and infamous by The Chemical Brothers, the title track manages to assemble jungle, breaks, Stussy techno and golden-era house into an unstoppable peak time juggernaut. Designed to twist and turn without veering into gimmicky tool territory, Save It is in its very essence an absolute belter that will slot into any DJ with an eye for adventure's arsenal. 

Remixes come thick and fast, but unlike most repackaged pop singles the talent brought together to re-identify Save It not only possess calibre in abundance but also display the integrity to actually bring some to their takes. Lancs trouble maker and long lost cousin Taneli's "Save It For A Sunday" mix is a gloriously reclined affair that allows the artist's sampling skills to shine, while disco/general diva Holmes Price invigorates a moody original with his own brand of colour and vitality. Rising star Elliot Adamson meanwhile, fresh from achieving DJ support from Breach and Laurent Garnier, throws down a characteristically weighty affair that you can hear all the way from Sunderland.

Rounding off the EP, everyone's favourite Russell Tovey impersonator lays down an altogether more sedate vibe in the form of Stems. Yet again uncovering a wonderful sample almost effortlessly, YEPIMNICK reminds us where we all came from with a playful piano tinged piece perfect for when the sun starts to peek through the windows.

To celebrate something of a post-millennial double whammy for us - reaching 3,000 followers on Facebook and more than 100,000 plays on Soundcloud - for the 24th instalment of our beloved Guest Mix Series, we thought we'd share something with you that's very special indeed.

Back in June this year, we had the pleasure of inviting some fantastic DJs down to play for us for our second session at Corsica Studios. We were also lucky enough to grab a live mix recording of some parts of the evening, and to celebrate our latest milestones, we're delighted to be able to share with you an excerpt from the headline set laid down by one of our most accomplished guests ever - the maverick, majestic, mesmerising Dr San Proper.

Something of a cult hero both in his native Amsterdam and across the continent, the DJ, producer and Rush Hour staple had the Corsica dancefloor in the palm of his hand from the second he strolled into the booth. Whether you were there and want to relive the glory or couldn't make it and want to see what you missed, prepare yourselves for two hours of untouchable club-primed house and disco from the Professor himself - and thank you all for your amazing support over the years!

NVWLS Guestmix #24 - San Proper (Live @ Corsica Studios)

While NVWLS might have wrapped up our parties and DJ appearances for 2016, we're very happy to reveal that there's enough time left in this altogether insane year for one more special feature. 

Before we turn our attentions to 2017 and our heavyweight New Year's Day session at Bloc with Fort Romeau alongside some super special stateside guests, we'd like to take a moment to celebrate the enduring NVWLS Guestmix Series as it continues its stumble towards middle age.  For the 26th installment of the Series, we've tapped up one of the finest resident DJs in the capital for a diligent hour and a half of marquee cinematic dance music. 

Representing We Concur, Tom Law has helped preside over the meteoric rise of one of London's finest success stories: despite having only launched in 2014, We Concur have already hosted such DJ royalty as Dixon, Nina Kraviz, DJ Koze, Daphni and KiNK, and show no signs of letting up. We also have the pleasure of sharing a radio station with Tom and the crew, who play after us on Music Box Radio on Thursday evenings.

For his mix, Tom has called upon several established producers such Eagles & Butterflies, Ripperton and John Talabot, as well as newer cuts from up and comers like LOR, Kris Davis and DKA. The end result mirrors the successes of We Concur itself; a final product that is bold, grand, and makes perfect sense.

NVWLS Guestmix #26 - Tom Law (We Concur)

In joining the 27 Club, the NVWLS Guestmix Series finds itself in some esteemed musical company. While we'll never know what Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison might have thought of the dance music sounds of today, it's safe to assume they'd have been fans of the passion and innovation that seems to be on display wherever you look.

For the Guestmix Series' 27th installment, we could think of anyone who embodied this spirit of musical enthusiasm better than Athlete Whippet, a Peckham-based duo who tore onto the scene in 2016 with a double whammy of exceptional releases. Comprising producers Bunki and Ballerino, founders of the progressive Squareglass imprint, the pair's Athlete Whippet moniker was responsible for two distinct and inspiring house cuts - Complain and Tired Of Being Alone - which garnered much-deserved praise from XLR8R, Les Yeux Orange and many other corners of the blogosphere. Having already been remixed by Dutch stalwart Awanto 3 and lo-fi wunderkind Ross From Friends, the talented twosome are already firmly on the musical map - and have turned in a top class hour of tunes to prove it.

Calling on established acts like Hunee, Soundstream and Pepe Bradock alongside up and comers like Laurence Guy, Danvers and Byron the Aquarius, Athlete Whippet showcase a keen understanding of both vibe and progression with a mix that is tight and propulsive. Having hit all the right notes - both here and in their debut year - the future is bright for this South London sound.

NVWLS Guestmix #27 - Athlete Whippet

NVWLS have had the pleasure of hosting all kinds of amazing guests during our first four years of fun, and we've also been very lucky to have hosted 27 fantastic and eclectic contributors who have made our electrifying Guestmix Series what it is today. Now, for this month's special rollover installment, these worlds collide once again: following on from Guestmix #24 provided bt Amsterdam's own Dr San Proper, our second ever live Guestmix comes courtesy of one of the most charming, humble and downright incredible DJs we've ever had the pleasure of beholding.

Representing one of the most titanic imprints in contemporary electronic music, Benjamin Frohlich held down Corsica Studios' Room 2 for us for over six hours at our last event in February. Having co-founded the legendary Permanent Vacation back in 2006 in his native Munich, Benji brought the sound of his progeny to Elephant and Castle for a sustained and captivating masterclass that represented one of his first sets in London for several years - needless to say, the capital had been missing out.

For NVWLS Guestmix #28, we're beyond excited to be able to share with you a three hour extract from Benji's marathon set, recorded live and direct from Corsica's beautifully bubbling smaller room. Listen out for a hotbed of Perm Vac exclusives, forthcoming cuts, modern classics and generally inspired selections, seamlessly stitched together into a euphoric and melodic tapestry.
