I got the opportunity to officially remix this classic song to coincide with the release of a new Donny Hathaway box set. I was given the original multitrack master of the studio version (different from the live version)and it consisted of 8 different instrument and vocal tracks (as opposed to the more usual 24 tracks) 
When I take on a remix, my first goal is to make it work on a current dance floor. I like to stay very close to the originally recorded sound and In most case there's plenty to be reworked on the multitrack master to achieve this. 
This case proved a little different as there were few rhythm elements I could use to fit within current standards of club loudness levels. So I decided to take a slightly different approach, and add a new set of (acoustic) drums,  to bend the original Soul vibe a little towards Disco territory.

Following the first steps on his return to record production last year, Greg Wilson delivers the second release on his Schooled In The Classics imprint just in time for the arrival of the summer sunshine. While the first Schooled release coupled 2 instrumental tracks, 'Blue Angel' and '12-Turn-13', we've taken things a whole stage further this time around, introducing vocals, courtesy of boss Merseyside singers Katherine & Carmel Reynolds, who are making their vinyl debut, having recently announced their presence via their contribution to the 'Blind Arcade Meets Super weird Substance In The Morphogenetic Field' mixtape:

Greg Wilson Presents Schooled In The Classics 'World Needs Love'

The debut release from Chicago’s NBD Music Co. (a new label owned and operated by John Mork of The Sound Republic and SpatulaCity Records) comes from Milwaukee’s Asher Diamonds, who made waves last year with releases on Nurvous Records and PlusPlus. This year he’s hands in an incredible original tune (“Got to Know”) that has garnered major support from DJs as well as the blogosphere. A driving deep affair sporting a vocal sung by Diamonds himself, this tune has been damaging dancefloors worldwise. Original tune #2 is “That Feeling”, a driving piano jam that is ev- erything great about that early 90’s house sound we all love. Both tunes are monsters.

On “Got to Know” remix duties we have Chicago’s Alinka, who along with partner Shaun J. Wright (formerly of Hercules & Love Affair) has been making waves with fantastic releases on Luke Solomon & Derrick Carter’s Classic Music Company, Tribal, and GetUp to name a few. Her mix sticks to her tough, driving style and has a nice bumpy Chicago feel. Up next is NBD’s own John Mork, who has been carving out a new sound with releases on NYC’s GetUpRecordings, Guesthouse Music, NuJax, and more and has delivered high-profile remixes for Midnight Magic, The New Di- vision, Speck Mountain, Change Request and Goldroom. A synthy, funky acidic affair, Mork’s mix takes a funkier nu-disco angle on the original. Last but certainly not least, we have an amazing late night deep number (so many feels) from Whiskey Disco owner Sleazy McQueen aka Space Coast whose productions have been licensed to over 100 releases, remixes & edits on labels worldwide, including, but not limited to; Bearfunk, Virgin, Compost, Paper Recordings, Siesta & Glenview Records.
