The third installment of our storm-mix series recorded while watching the blizzard roar outside of our little love box. 

The series first began with "Magic Corner" in 2011 when NYC shut down in anticipation of Hurricane Irene. We decided to record a follow up mix during the next city-wide shutdown due to Super Storm Sandy during which we recorded "This Is the Place." You can thank the Blizzard of 2016 for this one. Another volume dedicated to the golden period of contemporary Cape Verdian music of the diaspora, when a young generation of musicians spread across the cities of Rotterdam, Lisbon, Paris and Boston revisited the (until then) neglected rural musical roots of their land and by doing so, set a new standard of how Cape Verdian would sound like for the next generations. 
The focus on this second effort is on the synthesizer, an immensely popular instrument at that time, that they ended up using in an unprecedented way.

Japanese City Pop by Ed Motta for Wax Poetics

New York City is home to a diverse community of Colombian musicians and groups who create in a wide range of traditional, popular and experimental music styles for diasporic communities and beyond. Colombia in NYC takes us from independence day celebrations in a chic Manhattan club with accordion virtuoso Gregorio Uribe, to vallenato parties and outdoor festivals. We'll hear from experimental groups Combo Chimbita and Delsonido; traditional Afro-Colombian bullerengue group Bulla En El Barrio; salsero, folklorist and educator Pablo Mayor; innovative dance bands MAKU Soundsystem and Grupo Rebolú, harp virtuoso Edmar Castañeda and many more amazing musicians. Along the way, musicians weave in stories about nationalism, identity, place and diaspora, and discuss the challenges and opportunities New York City offers for Colombian musicians.

Show #61 • We were fortunate to have the dope NYC-based label boss, Eric of Names You Can Trust (@nyctrust) come through Saturday afternoon to play an assortment of his wonderful 45s. Touching upon all kinds of vibes, his set was definitely a treat! Marco opened things globally sound and Mawkus closed the show out with wiiide frequencies. Definitely a fun one so blast it!
