NYOBS perform for Memories That Smell Like Gasoline: Reading David Wojnarowicz.  Organized by Visual AIDS at The Whitney Museum For American Art. Friday, September 7, 2018.

Alongside his work as a visual artist, David Wojnarowicz was a prolific and influential writer. In particular, the urgency of his writing about the AIDS epidemic as a social and political crisis in the United States has had a lasting impact on artists and activists.

This evening devoted to Wojnarowicz’s written work included readings and performances by artists who were engaged with Wojnarowicz during his lifetime, or who have been inspired by his example. Taking its title from his final collection of stories Memories That Smell Like Gasoline (1992), this program highlighted the passion and rage of Wojnarowicz’s singular voice.

The Doctor, The Magician, The Puppet, And The Cat

Excerpted from NYOBS' live performance on the 2019 solstice at Le Petit Versailles garden. Vocals in this segment led by Peewee Nyob AKA Peter Cramer (also bells, Swiss clackers, news broadcast samples, tones and melodic samples, whistles, Kazoo) with Mike Cacciatore (self made pedals, synth,  tone generator, guitar, vocals), John Michael Swartz (self-synthesized vocals, bass guitar, pre-columbian flutes) and Jack Waters (harmonica, guitar, wood sticks, penny whistle, vocals)  This was the inaugural occupation of the "Museum Without Buildings", an installation by architect Yona Friedman. The "Museum"  framed the performance starting just before sunset,  through twilight, and into the darkness modified by Peewee's LED illuminations: Twinkly. Co presented by Make Music New York festival.
