A Southeast San Diego street legend that has committed his career to bringing his style of Damuzik into hoods across the world, Don Diego is crossing his experience in the streets with a mind for big business to bring his Damafiamu brand to the forefront of urban entertainment.
Born and raised in the infamous streets of Southeast San Diego, Don Diego found himself thrown into a life hustling and gangbanging at a very early age when he joined The Lincoln Park Bloods. While most kids were learning to ride bikes and going to birthday parties, Don was already experiencing violence, arrests, and drug dealings that would later lend to the all too true tales he would include in his music. As Don continued to make a name for himself in the streets he discovered a talent for writing rhymes and he quickly began to seek outlets for recording his own music. Don quickly found studios that would allow him to record and he began cutting demo CD’s that he would distribute around his neighborhood and the rest of Southeast San Diego. These CD’s lead Don to begin performing at local shows and then being booked for shows outside of San Diego up and down the West Coast.
As Don Diego continued to record he maintained his name in the streets and in 2001 he released his highly anticipated full-length project entitled “Dead Man Talking.” This CD expanded Don’s fan base outside of the West Coast and he found himself being sought out by a very street oriented fan base who loved his all too true to life stories from the streets. In 2005 Don followed up on “Dead Man Talking” with his “Gangbangin” mixtape and then in 2008 he released the historical “Cherry Chuck Gang” CD. The release of The “Cherry Chuck Gang” CD was revolutionary for San Diego as it saw members from rival gang sets coming together as one and recording for the betterment of the San Diego Streets. When asked about this inspiration for creating the “Cherry Chuck Gang” CD, Don says: “As a real factor in these Southeast streets with the opportunity to get our message outto the masses I had a real responsibility to create a CD that brought homies from every set together to represent for what really goes on in these streets.” As successful as “Cherry Chuck Gang” was musically, Don knew that he had to keep the streets and his loyal fan base fed with his real life tales and in 2010 he released his second full length solo album “Red Everything.” This project was once again met with an amazing response and showed the music industry that while it had became popular for many mainstream artists to claim bloods in their interviews, Don Diego was a certified one who received real respect in the streets from California to New York.
