An attempt to blend traditional breton singing (The Soeurs Goadec) sampled, reshaped, played live with dawless hardware, and mixed with a "tribal" D&B track from Manthrax

We tried some stuff, it was nearly jamming at time, and yeah there are some annoying mistakes here and there but I think the idea deserves to be explored in the future :)

We had a blast performing our HardKorrigans liveset during the OPAL festival of 2024. The crowd gave us so much energy and we had a lot of fun playing it :)

So.. What or who are the korrigans ?  
(the plural of Korrigan in breton language is actually 'korriganed')

If you search for these mythical creatures in Brittany's folklore, you can read or hear stories like these :  

“At nightfall the Korrigans emerge from their underground kingdom and launch into frenetic dances around a fire, wild sarabands and joyful debauchery, all accompanied by songs until the early morning. 

It's their dances that leave the so-called witch's rings, circles formed of mushrooms which grow 20 to 40 centimeters per year.  

If a man disturbs them during these ceremonies, the Korrigans offer him a challenge which, if successful, allows him to make a wish and join the party. But if he fails, the man is taken to an underground prison with no hope of deliverance."

Just jamming/improv. We were testing a new way of interacting in our hybrid setup, with a "generic" 130bpm tailored pack of sounds/patterns/patches. The MicroFreak patch sounded like a frog so it kinda drifted in some sort of "swamp tekno" full of 🐸 sounds

Work in progress. Part of the "HardKorrigans" liveset.

For this project I wanted to create something using the "calliope" instrument (and that's a really weird and, let's face it, shitty instrument) and the famous theme associated with the "circus atmosphere" : "Entry of the Gladiator"... and actually it had nothing to do with clowns originally.. 

Well. I have learned.. a lot.. about calliopes and that theme stuff.. in fact I'd say now that I learned way more than what should be considered  as "classic research" when starting a musical project..) and let me tell you a protip : when you have heard dozens of hours of calliope "music", I think your brain start to melt a bit..
Anyway, hope you'll enjoy the weird and dark carnival atmosphere in a bouncy tribe track :D
