After several years of quiet experimentation, Plant Life marks the debut physical release from Oahu - three experimental minimal ambient electronic compositions recorded in March and April of 2016 available in a limited run cassette edition via Second House. 

Each Oahu release involves a different approach to sound making, for Plant Life the following instrumentation was employed: 

cassette loops 
various small synthesizers 
delay pedals in a feedback loop 
Fostex and Tascam four track recorders 
one tiny speaker 
Tascam DR-05 digital handheld recorder 
drum machine 
Track 3 (Redwood) was made with Korg LittleBits, and a sample from FM3 Buddha Machine 5

Swimming Studies is Oahu's contribution to a split cassette on Harding Street Assembly Lab with Honeybrandy in the summer of 2016.

After seeing the them perform together, HSAL asked both acts to create a single composition of roughly 20 minutes in length for a split release.

"Oahu’s Mountain Rain / Garden Flood is made up of two complimentary electronic pieces. Both ambient compositions are exactly fourteen minutes and fourteen seconds, constructed with a tinkerer’s arsenal of synthesizer modules, iPad apps, and a Korg KP3 sampler. The pieces are aptly titled: while “Mountain Rain” gently washes over you like a static shower, “Garden Flood” is a continuous looped deluge of digital blips, beeps, and boops, gaining and losing textural layers as it progresses. Rotating between placidity and near-sensory overload, they create a cycle. As one piece finishes, you yearn for the next."

Hot on the heels of a split cassette with psych droners Honeybrandy, Oahu is back with two sidelong tracks of electronic bliss. 

Mountain Rain and Garden Flood are complimentary cycles of sound, each produced with the same setup: a dazzling array of Korg Littlebits synthesizer modules, Teenage Engineering's Pocket Operator Office, and a prototype usb-midi controller unit handbuilt in Brooklyn running various iPad apps, occasionally augmented with a Korg KP3 - and each recorded in a single session as the final rays of the summer sun snuck through September skies.

made to accompany a zine of the same name designed for the 2017 Norfolk Zine Fest in Norfolk, Virginia ---

the zine comprised simple line drawings of seven chairs and one lamp, along with the following poem by Matsuo Basho:

sitting quietly, doing nothing, spring comes, and the grass grows by itself

this piece was made with a eurorack modular synthesizer being modulated by a house plant via midi sprout and later processed electronically with an ipad.
