A Lifetime Ago

I've had an idea in my head for a bit that I wanted to try and sketch out. I recorded it the best I could with just a MIDI keyboard and Reason but I think I did okay. Let me know what you think and if I should expand it out into a longer song!

In case you're curious about the rhythm, the piano is in 13/4 (7/4 + 3/4 + 3/4) and then the drum break is in 7/8.

A Polymetric Experiment

He wrote the initial chord progression (found here: https://soundcloud.com/evan-jewell-65727994/abyss) and I wrote the melody and bridge sections. We're just screwing around here, but I think it sounds really nice. What do you think? Album material?

Abyss (feat. Evan Jewell)

This song represents a lot of angst I've got going on right now. The oddly syncopated, thumping rhythms represent the lack of control I feel over my life. Life is hard to predict, and it's hard to keep up. The piano stands out on its own, but sometimes gets drowned out by waves of sound. Feelings of loneliness are only amplified by diverted attention.

I also just made all that up. :P

If you didn't notice, the song's hard to count. That's because the beginning and end are in "19/8" time, or three bars of 5 followed by one bar of 4. The middle is in 5/4, or 10/8 if you prefer.

I wrote this on a whim and decided to see where it would take me. Hope you like it. Won't kill me if you don't.
