Remember side 2? There was a time when we used to flip albums over to experience a different side of the musical journey. everything seemed slower then. Even though our world is spinning no faster than it was billions of years ago, our minds have sped up considerably. What effect is this having on our ability to absorb and tell stories? The #metoo movement is highlighting our inability to listen to a story without also trying to solve it or speed to the end. We are treating it like a single rather than a full-length album. In this new year, let us take the time to learn to absorb and “spend time” at a slower pace and perhaps provide a space for a vital MOMENT, rather than shoving it too suddenly into a fleeting MOVEMENT. Movements are built, they are not simply born.

Carrah Q is a spiritual trainer, yoga teacher, lipstick aficionado, meditation instructor and religious educator. She holds a master’s degree, with distinction, in philosophy/ecumenics from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, and a BA in religious studies from University of Arizona.
