Lifestyle Music presents FUTURE part one; a seminal release in the history of the label, FUTURE fully embodies one of our main goals at Lifestyle - championing exciting new talent within the drum and bass scene. With this series we will be pushing some less-heard producers, and highlighting some names we're predicting to be big hitters in the future. 

Without mixing metaphors, we've had our ears to the ground on the frontline of drum and bass for a little while now, scrolling through miles and miles of soundcloud feeds, and digging our way through demos, so we are real happy to bring you our first VA of new talent. Inside, you'll find six varied tracks, connected by a common theme; being an absolute banger. From the intricate melodic weight of Dvice One's opener, all the way through to Skantia's aggressive funk closing off the EP, each track has a well-defined unique sound, there's something for every set and situation. 

Every one of these dudes gets the Lifestyle seal-of-approval, and we can't wait to see what they come out with in the coming year and beyond.

Deeper, darker, and more oppressive than a St Petersburg winter, Black Barrel is back on Lifestyle with a release sure to drive away the last of the autumn, burying any remaining hope in good weather under a veritable blizzard of weighty bass and freezing cold breaks. Grab ya coat! 

Continuing an incredibly successful year for the Russian badman, Black Barrel has served up two cuts of outright menacing drum and bass for the label, cementing himself as one of the scenes most interesting producers currently making that dark shit. 

‘Don’t Stop’ is a driving tech-banger, with a big, distorted bass that arps heavily underneath a loose, pumping drum break. One of those ultra hard mid-set tunes, the relentless thumping bassline doesn’t let up at any point, instead morphing about and playing subtly with the rhythms, and is sure to bring the creatures out on any dancefloor. 

‘Dark Place’ is even deeper, and genuinely more unsettling. The super eery intro gives way into a warping bass-heavy rhythm underneath chunky, loose-cut drums. The body of the track is incredibly minimal, and this stripped-back affair lets the unique bass + drums programming sound through, and the samples, stabs and squelches to freely bounce around the tune. 

Continuing the experimental & left-field vibe heard previously on the EEERRRRGHHHH EP with Nami, Black Barrel is once again showing his inability to write boring drum and bass. Not content with going with the crowd & sticking to the current trendy sounds, with every release this year he’s pushed the envelope further and further. This one’s no different, and an essential weapon for those long winter nights coming up. Brr.

Russian drum & bass producer Black Barrel is one of the most sought after producers to come through the ranks in recent months.

After his discovery by Ant TC1, a tastemaker who’s founded the careers of many similarly talented artists, he was brought into the fold of Dispatch Recordings and has since dropped a plethora of heavy-hitting releases which have solidified his place within the genre.

Can you believe we’re past our first 10 dnb vinyl releases? And we’re opening the second 10 with something really big – a hell of a track by Handra and Mystic State, accompanied by a superb remix by Fre4knc on the flipside. “Side Effects” – as that’s the title of the track in question – is all about that bass (hehe). That booming bassline, lifting the finely - programmed, soft beats up and down, adding some additional depth to the mysterious synthetic growling creeping up on the listener in the background. The single offers also yet another shade of the main course. Fre4knc dissects the original bits and pieces and puts them together in a new fashion, creating a dynamic roller driven by a no-nonsense continuous bassline, spicing things up with some heavy breakbeat choppage here and there. All in all, we’re treating you to a healthy portion of low frequencies, well-rounded, tasty beats, and a range of diverse additives that cause no harmful side effects (yup, pun intended)
