when reading books about nature, the climate crisis and complex natural and human systems, as well as being physically present in nature and wholly embracing all of the emotions that arise from that experience, i often find that a distinct sound palette emerges in my head. these 'sounds' often mirror the themes that i associate with nature and the theories that help me to better understand it.

this new mix series, 'tawai' - inspired by Bruce Parry's 2017 documentary exploring an indigenous community's intimate relationship with nature, and animating themes including complexity, emergence, resilience, feedback loops and interconnectedness, as well as the often rapid emotional oscillations between hope and despair; joy and grief; harmony and chaos; and life and death - is an attempt to weave those sounds into a coherent whole, a reflection on our home and the future of life here on earth. 

my eco-anxiety has felt debilitating lately but harnessing these emotions in making this mix has been extremely meditative. i hope you find as much enjoyment in listening to it as i did putting it together.
