The Burek podcast series returns to the cloud, this time brought to you by the amazing French house and techno meisters supremes - Les Yeux Orange.

Les Yeux Orange started early 2013, when Noctambulo and Humangigz teamed up to share their passion of electronic music with the world. Long time record collectors and DJs, both based in Paris, they started off by uploading all sorts of electronic music on their inhexaustible youtube channel and sharing podcasts by DJs such as Willie Burns, Intergalactic Gary, Mick Wills and many others. Joined in 2014 by two young producers, LeonxLeon and Alan Dente, they organised memorable parties with I-F, Yan Wagner, Albion, Sacha Mambo, Aroy Dee and Beppe Loda to name but a few. In 2015, they started a monthly radio show to promote new electronic music and featured many exclusive “premieres” of upcoming releases. Rapidly going viral, Les Yeux Orange are now invited to play all over France and in the UK and will soon launch their own record label.

KiNK - Leko (Burek 001)


Pomalo, means 'take it easy' in Croatian Dalmatia region's slang, is the latest addition to the Burek/Barba family.

A 12" by CL Dawkins titled 'Affirmation Of Love' comes as a wonderful postcard from Detroit. Written and produced by Alex Israel, remixed by Amp Fiddler, and with a vocal contribution by Lavell Williams, the record features three different generations of Detroit artists.

Alex Israel, here debuting his CL Dawkins moniker, is a mechanical engineer and synth aficionado with a deep respect for soul music. 
Since 2011, Alex has released a string of successful releases under his real name on labels such as Creme Organization, Stilove4music, Night Gallery and W.T. Records.

In tune with the mood and title of the label, Alex delivers two mid-tempo jams which are hard to ignore. 'Affirmation Of Love' is a soulful tune that works equally as the last song of the night, in your living room, or at a boat party. 
Mr. Williams, whose vocals envelop the song, is vice president of the Detroit Sound Conservancy, an organisation deeply involved with Detroit's musical heritage education.

CL's second tune on the record is 'Blue Falconry', an instrumental with a subtle synth line reminiscent of Alex's previous work threading through the whole length.

Finally, Amp Fiddler contributes his take on the vocal cut. Fiddler's career connects the worlds of George Clinton, Sly and Robbie, Prince, and Brand New Heavies to artists like Moodymann, J Dilla, Theo Parrish, and A Tribe Called Quest. 
A one-man musical hub, and an artist whose impressive biography would take up more space than we have here, spins the title with a dancefloor edge while retaining all the things we love about the original, a soulful Detroit house take that leaves a lasting impression...

CL Dawkins - Blue Falconry

Marco Bernardi, a British producer with quite a flamboyant personality is no stranger to the Burek family. Having already released an excellent 2-part 12” series titled “Laffer EP” for Barba lastyear, it could’ve been expected that he’d appear on the mothership at some point. As on those two records, there’s plenty of synth action going on, although with a little bit more restraint and
less roughness.

EP consists of 4 tracks, who’s names to some extent hint at what you might expect to hear when you put the needle on - “Preminitions Of A Solar Blank”, “Invisible Breaths”, “Static Winds” and “Walking With Slippers”.

The opener, “Preminitions Of A Solar Blank”, is a wonderful and rich composition, with a melody-heavy approach which does not cripple it’s dancefloor momentum for one second. Masterful!
“Invisible Breaths” is slightly deeper than the opener, with a subtle emotion buried between the layers of synth lines that organically unravel throughout the track.
“Static Winds” is perhaps the closest to Marco’s earlier Barba output. A bit squeaky, a bit messy and properly mental with a devastating effect on the dancefloor.
“Walking With Slippers”, last track on the release, is a very direct one, with a straightforward beat and a heavy synth line which is just impossible to ignore.

Preminitions Of A Solar Blank

Elizabeth Merrick-Jefferson is one of those artists who seem low-key. There’s not a lot of information about her, if any, except for the existence of the first two records and a lone interview. One released in 2013 and the other in 2014. Listening to either record tells you her music might be a lot of things, but low-key isn’t one of them. Powerful and colourful, direct, and with 313 references embedded in its DNA, she pulls it off with style.

Elizabeth’s third record is no exception. It has found its home on our mothership label, Burek.

“Three Happiness” is tailor-made for the dance floor. It won’t leave anyone with a pulse standing. Playful synths, wonderful strings, and infectious groove make it impossible to ignore.

“Knowledge Revolution” is layered and paced, painting a somewhat different picture. Melancholy and a sense of mystery envelop this track, whose leitmotif vocal appears just frequently enough to provide insight into the title.

The last track of this EP is fittingly titled “Noctilucent Clouds”. It's a drumless track with a rhythmic main synth counterpointed by sounds which give off the impression of clouds shining through the darkness of winter nights.

Another amazing release from Burek.

Three Happiness

We're back with our first podcast after summer! And we're very pleased that the inimitable Adam Wickens aka @adminuk , the Bristol funkmeister supreme, has contributed a real tour-de-freak of a selection. Encapsulating soul, balearic, disco, and 80tis cuts, Admin delivered a seriously tight, home listening mix.

Bio:
Steadily and patiently rising into light is Admin a.k.a Adam Wickens . Adam is a knowledgeable veteran beyond his years, he dedicates much of his time to the listening, collecting, carefully drawing musical influences from Soul, Disco, Jazz records and much more to respectably invest into his own, soulful, astral and progressive productions.

Based in Bristol, he has become a valuable member of the city's infamous underground scene, making regular DJ appearances at recognised parties, and playing at his residency night Slix Disco at the Love Inn.

Burek Podcast #35 - Admin

After numerous successful records on Ron Trent's "Future Vision" label, Volcov's "Neroli", DeepArtsound, Perpetual Rhythms, Osunlade's "Yoruba", and many others - "About U" is Trinidadian Deep's first release for Croatian label Burek.

Born and raised on the island of Trinidad and Tobago, today a place this producer calls "home" is found on various locations scattered all over the globe and a variety of influences is what is immediately evident by rich sounds and textures engraved onto this piece of vinyl.

A side, "I Want" is the most laid-back moment, in lack of a better term. Warm-sounding tribal percussions supporting the interaction of deep chords and wonderfully lush synths running thought the whole track only to get enriched with a beautiful piano line in the 2nd half. If there is track fitting to represent the sunset, that transition from day to night moment - "I Would" is the one.

B1 "Ghost" is the track on the record with the most forward-momentum. Deep tribal rhythms and lush synth lines are a sort-of a leitmotif on this record and are present here as well, with an occasional vocal snippet that only deepens the magic.

B2 "Abourisha" makes good use of those leitmotifs in a similarly effective but overall quite different manner. Broken rhythm gives it a slightly different energy, making it an ideal track for those 5 am moments when a track like this marks the night.

Reworking a big tune is never a simple task, especially if after 7 years the tune in question is still one of the highlights in
shows of one of the worlds most beloved live act performers, KiNK.
That’s only half of the story though, as the tune got a lot of love from so many DJ’s all over the globe.
However, for the 17th burek release, we wanted to do something really special and what could be better than giving new
life to a piece of music which literally gave life to our label. And we gathered some very interesting people for the job.
A1 KiNK - Leko (Kink’s Bass Shake Version) is a rework by none other thank KiNK himself. The original is a party
monster as it is, so Strahil opted for an alternative approach that sheds an interesting light on a familiar song. Huge
resonating bassline

A2. In 2013 KiNK had an successful E.P. with Rachel Row called Follow The Step which had a major impact on both of
their careers. Later while touring with Rachel she had an idea to put some vocals on top of the first Leko track, which
now turned into a completely different, slow track with the familiar piano melody.

B1 KiNK - Leko (Session Victim Remix) is a wonderfully subdued take on the original. It keeps all the main elements we
all know and love, and enriches them with a more percussive feel, well placed guitar licks and an overall easier mood. All
that said, don’t make a mistake with thinking this is something for the living room as this one’s made for those special
daytime/sunset/sunrise moments when a tune like this turns the situation into something everyone will take home with
them.
B2 KiNK - Leko (Original Version) is the tune, in all it’s glory and attitude. Full-fledged peak time house track which turns
every party into a steaming pit of bodies asking for more. Too hot to ignore.

Pytzek - Can God Rewind?

Burek is turning 18 with this one and we’re honored to have the opportunity to welcome one of Chicago’s most interesting producers to our family. His name is Mr Gene Hunt and if you’ve been into proper house music, it’s impossible to miss one of his records.

For this EP, titled “Reborn Rhythms”, Gene delivers 4 full-blooded house bombs. All tracks are going beyond 8 minutes of length and are making good use of that time. Common denominator of all tracks is the irresistible and effective groove which is almost challenging you to try and not to move to it.

A side is reserved for two versions of already anthemic-sounding “Deep House Thang” featuring Laffeyette Parker on the vocals. First up is the instrumental mix, and the second a full vocal.

Mr Hunt managed to come up with a skillfully balanced juxtaposition of a latin-sounding groove, catchy funk-sounding synth hook and gorgeous cascading pads. By the point the vocal drops, the whole room understand that the words are true.

Full vocal version is musically same as the instrumental but puts a much bigger spotlight to Laffeyette’s soulful vocal. He’s much more present and is developing the theme through several verses, in comparison to the instrumental one where only the chorus appears.

First cut on the B side, “Get Down”, is a ready-for-the-floor house track which during the first 20 seconds locks you into a heavy guitar-based bassline groove which bites like a bulldog. Throw Gene’s drum programming into the mix, with several different vocal chunks exchanging roles and you’ve got something you’ll be reaching for a lot. Serious house music vibes.

Second cut on the B side, “The Message”, could be described as the “calmest” or the “deepest” of the batch but that description doesn’t do it justice. It’s a beautiful peak-time house song which manages to build and move quite a lot without losing you in the richness of its piano chords, airy choir-reminiscent synths and beautiful strings. Simply timeless.
