Yu Yu is a tiny box room in CDMX. Since its opening in 2017, it’s been the home of electronic music in Mexico, welcoming everyone from Darwin to dBridge. In addition to the club, there’s also Yu Yu Record Store, a cosy vinyl stockist that champions the same flavours as its adjoining venue. 

Nico shared a percussive techno mix with us to represent the sound of Yu Yu.

RAVE SCOUT #041: KUSCHELN (INDEPENDENT, TOR)

Toronto-based DJ and artist, Matt Kuscheln, fell in love with the rave in high school. Boys Noize's classic 'Oi Oi Oi' album sparked a flare inside of him and after almost ten years as a dedicated raver, Kuscheln finally made his DJ debut three years ago. He is most inspired by the crossroads where hedonistic queer clubbing intersects with playful yet challenging electronic music and has spent the last few years cutting his teeth playing for the likes of Phile and Por Detroit. Kuscheln curates two hours of wonky rhythmic techno and proggy breakbeat for our latest Cookie Series #041.

Affiliations/Residence/Projects: Constantly improving my ear for sound, discovering POC producers/DJ's, and also working on producing my first track or EP. Outside of DJing, I've been engineering music and designing a ton of digital content for artists and brands, including myself.

Advice for the DJs, producers and artists of our community: Something I have tattooed on me is; "people may criticize you, but as long as you have faith in yourself that's all that matters." Do/Be/Express what aligns with you and F whoever tries to bring your frequency down. Stay true to yourself.

Not only does the world need more organizations, but environments where we can all come together and genuinely have a good time while expressing ourselves unapologetically, including workspaces, and I feel as though SFQP achieves that so effortlessly. Through each individual organization around the world supporting the LGBTQ+ community, I hope it inspires newly founded businesses that respect our sexuality and present more opportunities for us to expand as creatives in all industries.
