So who is Obsidion? If we were to tell you we've been here for ages in the form of a dark horse just waiting to fulfill its potential, would you believe us? Well, we suspect you would because for many people whose lifeblood is creativity  the journey can be full of twists and turns which are silent until they are brave enough to make the journey public.

Obsidion consists of Rebecca Ubuntu David and Louie Cruz. We met in Brighton after a series of separate  independent projects which weren't quite cutting it for us, so instead of sticking with stagnation we thought we'd give working together a go. Lo and behold the dynamics were great and the creative process sprang into fast action. 

Rebecca comes from a rich tradition of Gospel, Soul, Reggae and Acoustic influences. Surrounded by the music of African, Caribbean and Urban artists her focus became her voice and vocal techniques. 'I know from having grown up with the sounds of my grandma singing old Dominican folk songs and then hearing Soul II Soul on the radio that there was a huge correlation there and I loved it. I loved the urban sounds of the 90s and the traditional folk and Gospel sounds dating back generations way before my great grand mother. So I feel very lucky to have had a rich plethora of vocal experience from a very young age. I knew when I was 4 years old that all I wanted to do was be creative...it's taken me a little while to focus it but now that I have it's brilliant!'

For Louie playing guitar began as a hobby spurred by the nu metal explosion of the early 2000's.  This hobby quickly spiralled into a passion that would dictate his life from this point onwards.  Playing in bands ranging from grunge and metal in his mid teens, to blues and traditional folk in his early twenties, Louie's style is a reflection of his eclectic music taste, and is diverse and original.  Through years of gigging, raving, festivals and other experiences and experimentation, Louie has found a musical haven in the dub/reggae and psychedelic festivals of England, which provide a wide range of interesting sounds, as well as a heavy dose of friendly vibes.

Louie and Rebecca are currently recording their EP and both are at a blossoming period in their careers as artists. Rebecca has worked with young people giving singing, musical theatre and performance workshops as well as working in mental health. She is now embarking on a whole new direction in which creativity and being on stage take presidence.
