Italian imprint Opilec Music and It’s founder I-Robots presents a new release this September, entitled ‘Dimah’ and coming
courtesy of Hong Kong’s Ocean Lam and Ukrainian artist Andrey Sirotkin.
Ocean Lam has become a figurehead for the Hong Kong underground over the past decade as well as further afield throughout
Asia and Europe, DJing at notable festivals and clubs like Sonar Hong Kong, Wilde Möhre and Club Der Visionaere, this latest release adds to Ocean’s growing catalogue which has seen her release on Detroit’s Moteur Ville Musique and Germany’s Biotop.
Here, Ocean joins forces with Kyiv’s Andrey Sirotkin, founder of Vyrii Records, global DJ since 2004 and a regular at many of the Ukrainian capital’s leading nightclubs. The package is presented on Opilec Music by its leading man, I-Robots who is a friend of Ocean and has played her parties in Hong Kong several times and heard the initial demo when Ocean was in Turin in April of 2023, soon after this release was born…
Leading is the ‘I-Robots Edit’ of ‘Dimah’, a subtly unfurling journey through a gritty bass line, textural atmospherics, dubbed
out stab sequences and crunchy drums. The ‘I-Robots Extended Reconstruction’ follows and takes thing down a more loop-led
route via circling bass flutters, crisp 4/4 drums, dub reggae chants and ever unfolding, fluctuating dub delays throughout, a
‘Dub Reconstruction’ follows this, as the name would suggest laying focus solely on the raw groove.
Following next is the ‘Reconstruction Take 1’, a more tension led interpretation fuelled by howling textural synths, robust
upfront drums and the compositions driving bass line before ‘Reconstruction Take 2’ eases in an amalgamation of new
resonant chords and dubbed out effects across its nine-minute duration. A ‘Dub Reconstruction’ version then rounds out the
release.

Following the high-energy peak-time pulse of the Night Edition, Serialism Records continues its 18 years celebration with Before Everything Else Vol.6. The Morning Edition, the second half of a double compilation that captures the label’s full emotional and sonic spectrum. 

The Morning Edition (Part 2) dives into more stripped-back, minimal, breakbeats and after-hours terrain, crafted for those intimate sunrise sets and hypnotic deep-space dancefloors. 

This volume reflects the label’s soulful, heady, and more introspective identity. If the Night Edition was built for clubs and peak-time pressure, the Morning is for open-air rooftops, early morning tunnels, and sun-kissed gatherings where sound takes on a dreamlike quality. 

This second half features a powerful lineup of underground artists, both veterans and rising voices, each shaping a unique moment of this sonic journey. 

Vlad Arapasu delivers signature hypnotic rolls, while label founder Cesare vs Disorder & label partner Weg return with a deep minimal-breaks fusion. Fantastic Friends boss Nicolas Duvoisin crafts a pristine minimal gem, and Christian Berger (ex-Deaf Pillow) brings groovy off-kilter class with B4. 

Eddy Romero teams up with young UK’s Mika for a smooth, dubby ride. Zlene, Neu club’s Stockholm regular, adds playful funk; Richard Rozen, Sousk, and Ocean Lam lace the morning air with groovy pieces with melody, warmth, and ambient textures. 

Mathieu & Max Jacobson blend moody minimal techno with early light feels, while Random Voices sends a hypnotic transmission straight from Beijing. Mad Dim & Kirill Golikov add a sharp, clean minimal swing, and Botanic Soundsystem & Shade of Green ride the line between deep house and ambient. 

Don’t miss Serbian standout Sloxxx with his darkly seductive Piknik Pored Puta, or Serialism’s own Rhom Omit, who closes with a dub-heavy elegant sunrise closer. 

Once again, the aesthetic dimension is shaped by Fernanda Mattos, Serialism’s long-time Art Director, whose visual work has been integral to the label’s identity since day one. For Vol.6, she delivers a unique counterpart to the Night edition, lighter, dreamier, but equally bold, perfectly reflecting the atmosphere of “The Morning.” 

Together, Night and Morning, these two volumes of Before Everything Else Vol.6 aren’t just a celebration of the past 18 years. A snapshot of the label’s present voice and the vibe of a global community of sound seekers, DJs, producers, and lovers of the underground.

Release notes: Making her debut appearance on the Detroit based label Moteur Ville Musique this summer, Hong Kong based artist Ocean Lam delivers the standout Auditory Touch featuring remixes from Eduardo De La Calle, Joal and regular label affiliate Jay Tripwire.

Auditory Touch kick-starts the EP with tribal pads and an addictive beat that resounds with force. Ocean demonstrates her dance-floor knowledge as the track unravels into a peak time number, generous in groove and atmosphere.

Adding his signature stamp and first up on remix duty is Canadian born Jay Tripwire, with a typically minimal and intricate affair. For almost two decades Eduardo De La Calle has been producing music under a variety of aliases. The Madrid based artist steers his remix into big room territory, with a stomping beat and dizzying synths. Portuguese born and Berlin based Joal takes the track in a new direction with a funky acid cut where space like bloops merge with a deep baseline.

Ocean Lam has built and cultivated with drive and passion over more than a decade to the underground scene and the music she loves in HK. Her sound is atmospheric, shifting moods and energies whichever way she sees fit.

Ocean has played at some major festivals and underground clubs in Asia, Epizode, Wonderfruit, Intro and Sonar HK and in Germany Melt and Feel Festival. She was tapped to represent Hong Kong at its first live edition of Boiler Room at Shi Fu Miz festival. Regularly played in Berlin, Milan as her annual Europe tour playing with international artists and label nights.

A leader of Hong Kong’s growing electronic music scene and a long-standing female maverick in the overall Asian scene, she was a Co-founder & Music Director of Social Room club in HK for 6 years. Her events hosted international artists including Tobias., Basic Soul Unit, Oskar Offermann, Hiver, and Inland, to name but a few.

Not just a DJ, promoter, organizer, and Music Director, Ocean is also a producer of her own music, with releases on Moteur Ville Musique (Detriot), Biotop Label (Berlin), WAPM and HK label Typhoon 8 Records. Guest mix invited by many international channels such as 6am Group, Mixmag Asia, Meoko, Serialism records and more
