Broken Record is Oceanics’ first release in over two years. 
The track began in late 2012 as what the band considered an exaggerated and bizarre jam carved out in a shed on the Gold Coast that happened to be recorded on an iPhone. 

Over the next two years the structure was slowly pieced together in muffled iPhone snippets on Elliot’s computer. Tracked entirely in the band’s spiritual home of Alberts, Neutral Bay, the song is a completely in-house product, engineered by the group’s own Tom Garnett.

‘Feel It Coming On’ was a simple song written on an acoustic guitar by Elliot a few years ago. The song finally entered its current, full-band incarnation in early 2014 when the others added their respective parts and brought it to the studio. The song is a warm, slow-swung homage to the easy going guitar pop bands who initially influenced Oceanics.

Oceanics’ self-titled debut album is the culmination of a methodical, in-house approach which spanned more than two years. Some songs were written years ago, others mere hours before recording. 

The collective body of work sees the band wear their influences in an unabashed, straight-shooting fashion that only a group who have spent years writing together can do.  

During the process, the band internalised the concept that expectation breeds disappointment. Thus, the album was made for little more than the fun and satisfaction of song writing, staying up all night, sleeping on floors and tirelessly trekking between Queensland and Sydney. 

The release will be celebrated with a special one-off show at Elsewhere on the Gold Coast.
