Octave One "Jazzo" snippet

From the Morevi Records night at Horoom on June 13th comes this next instalment in the series. In a little over a decade, Separat has proved his mettle behind decks in his hometown Aachen, current base Cologne and other places like Gewölbe, Tresor or Openground. His sound has been instrumental in the local scene, a true underground talent and one of the heads behind Brandwerk. His press presence is fairly light, and a keen focus on his sound the most critical part of his work: groovy, immersive and playful. Fun through and through, with tones and charging rhythms which are designed for dancing the night away. Jon Hussey is hailed as a pioneer of the Irish Techno scene, kick-starting the infamous Planet Dub night in ’94 at Columbia Mills / Waterfront, Dublin. Since then Jon has promoted and resided at many Techno clubs throughout Ireland as well as playing in many Techno havens across Europe including Amsterdam, Bratislava, Berlin, London, Leeds, Exeter, Turin and New York. 

In 1999 Jon was among the first group from Ireland to qualify for the Red Bull Music Academy held in Berlin where he showcased his Irish Techno skills. 

In 2001 he helped electronic music maestro and lecturer Kenneth Harte to setup and establish the first DJ techniques and electronic music production course in the ‘Bray Institute for Further Education’ BIFE which is still to this day the only full time course DJ & Music Technology courses in Ireland. 

A quote from the national Irish radio station 2FM in their Late-Night Sessions Blog stated “Jon Hussey is one of the longest serving true purveyors of Techno in Ireland, running nights in the early days of Dublin's dance scene, when techno to most people meant U96 or 2 Unlimited. Consistently one of the best DJs around, Jon never lets the side down” giving a rare insight into Jon's personality as a DJ! Jon Hussey is now playing Techno for 3 decades and is regarded as one of the longest if not the longest DJ solely playing Techno on the Irish scene. 

Jon Hussey has previously released with fellow Techno DJ Sunil Sharpe as part of a joint project under the moniker 'Tricaustic' with “the Caustophobic Pressure EP” on Komisch records, Jon has also released his productions on RLSD Records, Earwiggle, Ceili tracks, Circuit Structure Records and on the Netherlands based label R3volution Records for the Viktims Vol.1 EP alongside some excellent current producers like Linear System and Mattias Fridell. One of Jons most well received collaboration track Saol Fórsa a title he gave the posthumous work with dear friend Stuey Lyons (RIP) on Deliquent Delivery in ’22 was championed by many industry favourites including Ben Sims, Freddy K and Blasha & Alatt. Jons latest track ‘What if’ has just been released on a new Delinquent Delivery VA and he has also created recent remixes for Dublin band ‘Dumb Posh Hippies’ album track ‘Ego Ripper’ and also for Swiss based producer Maeksll for his ‘Staub 02’ album track have received excellent feedback from the Techno community. 

Further releases are planned for this year on Delinquent Delivery records and new Dublin based record label SCART

Turbo Recordings is proud to present the revival of German techno giant Gregor Tresher’s Sniper Mode alias with the Riot Gear LP. We have been promised that this release will usher in a Golden Age of Electro in which we will serve at the right hand of the Lord for a starting annual salary of €43,000. Not bad.

Riot Gear showcases Tresher’s established production genius over 11 cuts of S-tier electro marked by menace, depth, and sharp melodic hooks. Lead single “Blinded by the Dark” is a collaboration with Dave Clarke, the most respected man in electro and perhaps just in general, and features the most punishing drop in recent memory. The album also includes standout vocal contributions from Detroit techno pioneer Jay Denham (“Sanctuary of Vices”), Miami Bass kingpin Exzakt (“Echoes From a Wasted Land”), dance-world enigma Kira (“Phantom Pain”), and Turbo favorite Perel (“Modesty Is a Virtue”). We would argue that this album represents a landmark achievement in the genre, which you have to admit would reflect pretty well on us as a label. 

It is not every day that Turbo Recordings embraces the responsibility of husbanding a full-album release, and you should know that it comes as a cost. The additional listening time, track title typing, and intensive download/upload workload have pushed our dedicated staff of 90 to its breaking point. We have a lot going on over here.

Guidelines for vanishment

With this mix, I wanted to break down the barriers between predefined styles or music genres. I aimed to make a progression from House to breaks, speeding up to Techno and a Dnb/jungle track to end the selection. The set is 50% my own music and 50% artist I enjoy at the moment. Keeping it elegant/jazzy and sophisticated inside the frame of electronic dance music. Diversity with a common ground, the dancefloor.

This leading light from the Berlin scene is up next with 85 minutes of feel good tunes guaranteed to get you moving. Partok’s rise as go-to DJ for clubs like De School, Blitz, Basement and Panorama Bar is really no surprise. The recipe? Bridging genres and histories from Detroit to early UK rave, and constantly correlating those with more recent developments in music, and always through a queer lens. These deckside stints have a soft galvanising power, chugging rhythms with social change front and centre, grassroots house that spurs dancefloor denizens to action with selections that prioritise the work of fellow queer artists. It’s back to the city by the sea for Bassiani Podcast 285 and Lournco Lvgs is flying the flag. On the Lisbon beat he works across different media including sound and visual, exploring the nexus of both disciplines with interminable passion and proposing a world rich in pattern and texture. Seeking to investigate the connection between the physical and the intangible elements in music, Lournco Lvgs tirelessly reformulates elements and yields the best sounds as a result. For this latest instalment, the Portuguese provocateur supplies just under two hours of liminal drumloops and tunes hot off the grill, explosive beats from a local talent.

Techno is a family affair.

Arriving onto the electronic scene with "I Believe", featured on the monumental (10 Records) compilation "Techno 2: The Next Generation" (alongside Carl Craig, Marc Kinchen, and Jay Denham) in 1990, Octave One is the brainchild of the phenomenal native sons of Detroit, MI (USA), the Burden Brothers. The core unit of the band, made up of Lenny and Lawrence Burden (with revolving members of Lynell, Lorne, and Lance Burden), have had the privilege of bringing their high energy live shows to many parts of the world, including Australia, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, UK, and the USA, among many other places.

The brothers have released groundbreaking dance anthems on their own Detroit based record label, 430 West Records. Including DJ Rolando's "Jaguar", Random Noise Generation's "Falling in Dub" (the other Burden brother moniker), Aux 88's "My A.U.X. Mind" (on the 430 West sister label Direct Beat), as well as their own Octave One recordings: "Empower", "Nicolette", 'The X-files", "Meridian", “Love and Hate”, “The Greater Good”, and 'Siege". They have remixed tracks for such artists as Massive Attack, Akabu (Joey Negro), DJ Rolando (Jaguar), Steve Bug, John Thomas, Aril Brikha, Vince Watson, The Trampps, Rhythm is Rhythm, and Inner City.
