Whenever I've made a mixtape, I've found the idea of simply mixing two songs together as boring. My vision for mixes is to pretend that each part of a song is on its own turntable and that I can mix the song's individual parts together. This allows for endless possibilities. I am not the world's best DJ, but my mixes aim to be flawless because it is the world as I imagine it, not the world as it is and I believe very few DJ's could mix 8 parts at once. Hence the Octopus. The Octopus's many arts embody what I would hope to do as a DJ, although perhaps a slight bit more of dexterity would be needed. This is the vision I see within the music and hope that you enjoy it. SOUNDSET BEAT TAPE :: Produced by FLEG & NU GAI

First off, full disclosure, I was set to make this mix for a month or so and it has been in the works for some time...but given the timing of when I'm putting it out, I want to dedicate this mix to MexOne.
    Thank you Mex for all that you did for the breaking community, for me, and for people's perception of breaking in the outside world. What's funny is that I start this mix with two songs I often play together, to start out a cypher. I remember I played this at Deuces Wild in Atlanta in 2013 and Mex was there and gave me a "oooo this is dope" look when I started playing the cypher. After the jam, he came up to me and said "I have to have you come and spin at Outbreak." I was incredibly honored and said that I would be there. That last Outbreak, in addition to being one of the best jams of my life, was also the setting off point for me in the breaking world. Because of the shine Mex gave me, I was soon contacted by European promoters and everything snowballed from there. In short, this man is literally the reason that I have been successful for the past few years. I feel like everyone I know has a story like this about him, whether its putting the Squadron together, helping out at a local jam, lending a hand to a promoter, shouting out a bboy, helping with BCone or other big competitions to keep the culture present in those events or any number of other things. His impact has been monumental in the breaking scene and  we're going to miss him so much. In addition to that, as a friend he was just a cool ass dude, always ready to chop it up, talk about something, joke about something...whatever. Thank you so much for everything brother, we're all so sad at your passing. The best thing that I can do to honor you is continue giving as much as I can musically, organizationally and otherwise to this culture. Love you man.

Before my next mix of newer material I wanted to make the first in a series of Classics mixes. These are the breaks that I remember being played all the time in the early 2000's. Some of them are straight up bboy anthems. Leacy, Dadeo, Geometrix and local radio DJ's had a big impact on what I play in this mix. To me, these sounds were everywhere and I wanted to bring that vibe back for the newer generation who might not know these breaks as well. Thank you to everyone who's supported me and believed in me. DJ FLEG - Classic Breaks Mix Vol 1

Our New Album will be out August 27th here on Bandcamp and we'll have a live album release party at 7 pm!!! All proceeds from that album go to OrchKids, a program in Baltimore city that brings music classes and orchestras into city schools. The government has not sponsored school music programs in a long time, so this is a solution in the absence of that funding.

This was the first time the entire band played together. Our first rehearsal was soundcheck. This isn't a professional recording, but I think it captures the energy of the room in an incredible way. When I got home after the event and heard this recording it gave me chills, and that was before the pandemic. Now it is a reminder of how beautiful and free our life in hip hop was and hopefully, how it will be again in the future. Our collective energy is irreplaceable and I don't regret one moment of my life spent with y'all.

THE EAST COAST AFFAIR - LIVE AT KING OF WHAT

What's good y'all! This is a track I composed and produced with a full band. The whole project is out today and all proceeds go to the OrchKids Nonprofit here in Baltimore City. The OrchKids program creates music programs in schools here, since there are no publicly funded ones.
