Berlin’s beloved @budakid returns to Disco Halal for his second offering with ‘If Chickens Could Talk’. As enigmatic and enthralling as the title would suggest, the artist creates his own psychedelic escape for the dance floor. Drawing on a love of acoustic, floating melodies, both ‘If Chickens Could Talk’ and ‘Over Not Over’ pull you in with addictive synths, whilst the pulsating riffs guide the listener into a dreamy head space. At points the EP appears ambient and at others completely euphoric, it’s the perfect display of Budakid’s unique take on dance music and one that knows no limit.

On the creative thought process behind ‘If Chickens Could Talk’, Budakid states: "Living in a world where we have the illusion of doing the right thing. But what if chickens could talk and tell us we're doing something completely wrong." That quote sums up the weird and wonderful nature of this EP - born out of an alternative outlook on our lifestyle, the artist questions the world we live in through the power of electronic music.

In recent years Budakid has made quite the name for himself thanks to a slew of releases on DIYnamic, Exploited and Last Night On Earth. His last venture with Disco Halal came last year, with the EP ‘Ochre Tuesday’ that took us on a journey through his universe, and we couldn’t get enough. It encapsulated the anything goes mentality that the label encompasses and both ‘If Chickens Could Talk’ and ‘Ochre Tuesday’ will feature on a 12” vinyl, featuring both original artworks made by the artist himself. With these impressive collections of tracks coming so early in his career, nothing stops Budakid from becoming one of the greats.

Heavy Rotations Vol 1 is Maeve's first long player. Releasing a compilation has long been an ambition of the label, however time was the key component in producing a record we could all be proud of. The best laid plans can often fall by the wayside, having a clear idea of what you want to achieve with a record like this changes constantly as you collect the pieces of the puzzle and try fit them together in a way that makes sense.

As well as the label founders we started by also inviting friends that had already released on Maeve, to contribute to the compilation. This was a good starting point as each of those artists are all quite different from one another so we felt it could produce some interesting results. There was no brief, just a blank canvas to contribute something they felt belonged on the label. It was also super important for us to use this record as a platform for lesser known artists to showcase their work.

So after 2 years of planning we finally have an 11 track compilation together which will be delivered as a triple vinyl in early June. It is a record that developed and changed a lot over that period but now is something Maeve is very excited to share with the world.

On May 19th we will launch the record at Funkhaus Berlin with a line up compiled of those who contributed to the compilation.

Premiere: Gheist - Zukunft [Watergate]

On May 22, Dutch producer @barilmusic will release his debut EP "One More Rush". The release features six dreamy, lo-fi sounding works. It can be seen as a mini-album. Baril previously released “Vocales" on Intercept, and more club- focussed tracks under his real name, Marc Holstege.

And what a sound he has found. On "One More Rush" he strikes balance between breakbeats, melody, emotion, vocal samples, and soundscapes. This is music to dream away with, to listen to at home, but also to hear on dance-floors. When we can again, of course. A wonderful debut!

The title track 'Time Travel' is a chilling deep house composition full of colorful emotions and calmness. It is a perfect introduction for the rest of the release.
A beautiful remix from rising Lithuanian female producer Monikaze continues the mood with additional vocal bits and sweet melodies. Monikaze has already presented her unique sound across Lithuania and now is rushing out towards the international stage. Her fresh-sounding remix compliments the whole EP.
'Hoon' lifts up the mood and brings some appetizing grooves with Arabic spice. Afro-rhythms mixed with western grooves catch the attention from the very start and keeps it till the end.
The fourth track in the pack 'Duo Mod' gets out of the Deep House frame. Organic beats and semi-acoustic synths combined with uplifting and bright temper makes it a relaxing and chilling composition.
'Jam' redirects the whole EP to a whole new soundscape. The most energetic track in the release is more dedicated to the big room sound.
Last but definitely not least 'Akram' comes with a darker mood. Strongly characterized synths build the tension yet keeps the coziness in the groove.
