Our new digital release comes from from portuguese producer Nørbak, an expert in dense textured techno often played by the deeper selectors out there. He offers no less than seven cuts for this extended EP.

Yute is the firestarter, micro Fm bells, compact drum workout, heavy subbass action and an expert arrangement. Nunca follows, slowing down the pace, low filtered drones and white noise and subtle hypnotic sequences. Jutero add extra groove with analog congas and flanged textures spiced with atmospheres and micro percussions. In Faktor we find similar elements, opaque feelings, filtered components, dynamic structure all without parafernalia.

Jutf goes back to prime time action, with a funked up groove, spaced out pads and continuous sequencing. Gyer is scifi techno at its best, pulsating synth lines run along bleeps and heavy reverberated landscapes. Biry closes the release with opaque drum sounds, and panned alien details in various layers that mutate and run all over the arrangement.

A serious exercise of scientifically cradted techno, attemporal, out of tendences and personal.

5 - Nørbak - Jutf

Flug is known for his straight and energetic sound. This one hour dub techno mix from him is something completely different. He creates an very special mood. This is one of those moments when you close your eyes and drift off into another world. We are very pleased that we can continue our podcast series with an artist like him.

Ray Kajioka is a german Techno producer, remixer, DJ, Live Act since 1995, based in Berlin. A distinguishing and striking aspect of his music is certainly the warm spheric and impulsive sound, which is constantly present in all of his productions.  Ray’s live and DJ-performance encompasses all the elements of today’s modern Techno/Nu-House, but has its feet firmly planted in the roots of the Detroit-vibe. “The typical Ray-sound” is appreciated all around the globe and had taken him to events international-wide, since.

1/ Who are you ? What do you do?
I’m Paul Porteix, producing on modular system and also skating since 15 years. In parallel, I’m the manager of a textile printing shop for professionals and privates.

2/ If you were a movie character, who would you like to be?
Bernard Blier to play the kitchen scene in ‘Les Tontons Flingueurs’. 
‘Don't touch the grisbi, bitch!’
 
3/ If music wouldn’t exist, which job would you like to do?
Definitely my job as a graphic designer and textile printer, the continuity of my studies.

4/ The naughty / improbable anecdote during a gig?
The hottest and naughty: SPECTRUM. One of my first gigs was in Ibiza in a very intimist club. After 20 minutes playing, a well-drunk guy standing next to me and starts having fun with the buttons of the Xone… I said nothing at first. But he comes back. I look at him quite badly and ask to stop and let me play. Later in the night, he said he is a DJ and blamed me for not playing enough with the mix table. Having a hundred of buttons in my system to manage, I found the situation memorable. A Genius !

PORTEIX (LIVE) - SPECTRUM PODCAST 010

Rising Techno star Nørbak makes a welcome return to @soma with his second release the "Struggle In Vain" EP. The prolific young Portuguese producer has had an incredible year so far in terms of releases and this 2nd release with Soma marks a decided upturn in showcasing his well crafted and defined sound. Adding to the EP’s already heavy sound is Spanish producer Kwartz who delivers an epic remix in his own inimitable style.

Subtlty and hypnotism are trademarks of Nørbak’s sound and opener "These Hurrying Years" is a perfect example of him using both of these to work in tension throughout. Title track "Struggle In Vain" leans on driving and direct elements that deliver on pure intensity. Listen to the premiere and you will see exactly what we mean.

"It Will Not Consume Us" works in broken beat rhythms allowing Nørbak to bring a sense of groove whilst more atmospheric elements evolve throughout. The Kwartz remix of "It Will Not Consume Us" closes out the EP with great depth as layer upon layer unfolds, utilising the original’s atmospheres and melodic tones, creating a whole new entity.

Elart Records sees its Spanish label head Albert Salvatierra supply his seventh EP and this time welcoming remixes by Arnaud Le Texier and Joton to complete the four track package.

Arnaud Le Texier is a veteran artist who has released on heralded imprints ranging from from Slam’s Soma to Sven Väth’s Cocoon and continues to inspire the scene with his evolving style and quality productions.

For this DT:Premiere we selected his remix of “Immersion” that focuses on a rolling beat and hypnotic aspects to drive things forward in a relentless fashion. Morphing tones, stabbing phasers and spacey textures create a deep character to this energetic piece of masterful techno.

RAMKKA is a DJ and producer from a small town in Ireland that has been fascinated with techno since he was a teenager. His love for the genre developed after seeing Dave Clarke many years ago and he has been DJing since then with his production career coming more recently. His brand of techno is dark, hypnotic and driving and he states DJs like Oscar Mulero, Lewis Fautzi and Norbak as his inspirations. His first EP was released earlier this year on Spanish industrial label Truc Records followed by a track on heavyweight UK techno label Taro Records with another 2 3-track EPs on the way alongside other remixes and tracks which have also been signed by labels across Europe.

Jon Hester got his start in the midwest US, living in Chicago, Minneapolis, and connecting with Detroit. After years on the dance floor he took to the decks, going on to work in a record shop, host his own events, and hold residencies that developed his sound. Music production and a move to Berlin followed, but dancing and mixing are still the inspirations that drive him to create.
