Fuelled by his passion for contemporary Australian music, Bradley Zero (RS INTL boss) caught wind of the band and was quick in declaring their debut release, a limited 12” on Plastic World, as one of the best of 2013. This Place EP is the product of an ensuing cross-continental relationship and offers a fleshed out introduction to the Sydney four-piece’s sound with three immersive, sprawling tracks

Drawing from the leftfield avant-pop of Arthur Russell and Talking Heads, progressive disco of Nile Rodgers and contemporary ambient electronica, Retiree channel these through their own pervasive aura of rum-drunk antipodean sunshine. The result is music that is in equal parts lush, thoughtful melody and meditative tropical rhythm.

The EP sees joint international release from Peckham, London label Rhythm Section International who released the instant classic debut of Al Dobson Jr, and were nominated for label of the year at Gilles Peterson's 2015 worldwide awards, as well as purveyors of southern hemisphere groove-driven underground pop Plastic World (GL, Savoir).

It will be accompanied by three conceptually related yet geographically disparate videos, filmed between Sydney, Melbourne and London.

This Place EP is released worldwide June 22nd on 12” vinyl and digital.

Something Going On

Oddsocks are a Sligo 4-piece who aspire to remember the importance of the elements that make for great music: melody, harmony and groove. They have developed their sound over the past 4 years to create a music style that is rich in vocal harmonies which they describe as Rhythm and Groove.

In late March, Oddsocks will release their new  EP “Something Going On”. This will be their third release under their own label Jeanie Mac Records after their debut album ‘It’s Time’. This will be preceded by the online release of their single and music video for the title track ‘Something Going On’ on March 18th.

On the record, the band are joined by keyboard player Kieran Quinn who, through the use of the Hammond organ, Rhodes piano and grand piano, helps to create a different mood not heard before with Oddsocks. Funky guitars, stacked vocal harmonies and vintage piano sounds skillfully colour each of the Ep’s four tracks proving that these boys are as dedicated to the craft of songwriting and making records as they are to playing a dynamite live show.

Oddsocks are Anthony Mannion on guitar/vocals, Luke Mercer on guitar/vocals, Michael Conefrey on bass/vocals and Danny Young on Drums/vocals. The four met in Sligo while still in school through a love for classic rock music and have since been on a journey of musical exploration which has lead them around Ireland and the UK and to their current base in Dublin’s north inner city. 

The band have gigged across Scotland, England, France and Holland as well as hitting the festival circuit ( electric picnic, Edinburgh Fringe, Volvo Ocean race, Sea Sessions). Now with a new Ep and further releases penned in for later in the year and a tour of Germany planned, 2013 promises to be a busy and fruitful year for Oddsocks.
