Saisons Musique artists coming together for Marine Life Preservation

Dear Friends and Ocean Lovers,

This Earth Day, we are excited to share Origines Vol. 01: Ambient Album for the Ocean, a fundraiser with 100% of net proceeds from Bandcamp sales supporting BC Whales and their marine conservation efforts.

Curated by Kora and Saisons Musique, Origines brings together diverse artists from around the world united by a common purpose: to honour and protect our oceans. The title reflects the profound truth that all life on Earth originated from the ocean—we are all connected to the water womb that birthed life itself.

The album features stunning visual art by Ioana Todosia: "Estero" Cyanotype textile print created on Pacific Coast of Oaxaca, MX. Ioana creates sun prints by dipping cloth into the ocean, allowing nature itself to create the art—capturing the traces where tide meets shore.

From Montreal to Oaxaca, Australia to Argentina, this international soundscape celebrates our global community while serving as both an ambient journey and a call to action. Each track is designed to foster reconnection—within ourselves, with each other, and with our planet, offering moments of reflection, resilience, and renewal.

The artists behind Origines believe in the power of art to inspire change. Together, we keep hope we can make a difference in protecting the oceans and the majestic beings that call them home.

We welcome a collaboration that embodies the cosmic balance between earthly grounding and nocturnal transformation. Kora (@kora-musique) and Oiseau de nuit (@odnmusique) unite as Hiboux (owls).

This marks a significant moment where Phases Musique and Saisons Musique (@saisonsmusique) intersect. But beyond the convergence of two collectives lies a deeper story — one of mentorship, friendship, and shared musical evolution. When Oiseau de nuit took his first steps in music making back in 2015, it was Kora who guided his way. Their collaboration within Saisons Musique has been a long-standing journey, and Hiboux represents not just a meeting of two artists, but the culmination of years of creative dialogue and mutual inspiration.

Together, they channel the supermoon’s energy — that delicate tension between holding on and letting go, between stability and metamorphosis.

Like the owls that navigate at darkness with precision and grace, this release moves through shadow and light with intention. Hiboux carries this medicine forward. Downtempo rhythms that root you to the earth while organic textures invite transformation.

Kora brings it’s traveler’s compass, guiding us through diverse sounds and stimulating flutes textures where acoustic and electronic worlds collide. Oiseau de nuit contributes the deep, contemplative groove essence. The result is a sonic ceremony — patient, purposeful, and filled with the possibility.

It’s a music for the hours when the world sleeps but the spirit awakens.

A gift for those navigating the disorienting darkness of late autumn. I felt this immediate need to share it. Like it could be a balm on your heart when you feel lost.

November in Quebec brings the jarring shift of daylight savings, plunging evenings into premature darkness. It's a month traditionally associated with endings—the final harvest, preparation for winter's dormancy, themes of mortality and transition. Yet "Spring in November" offers a counter-narrative: the resilience of the human spirit and the promise that warmth and life can bloom even in the most challenging circumstances.

The track exists in that liminal space—neither purely melancholic nor artificially optimistic—but rather as an honest companion for those moments when the seasonal shift mirrors internal turbulence. It's music that acknowledges the darkness while gently suggesting that spring can arrive in unexpected forms, in unexpected seasons.

This Full moon will feel pretty special because it's a Halloween Blue Moon. For the first time since the 1940s, Halloween will receive some spooky ambiance from a full moon this year. The last time it occurred was in 1944. The next one isn’t expected to happen until 2039, NASA said.

Early full moon on a monday morning, appearing opposite the Sun (in Earth-based longitude) at 4:30 AM EST. The Moon appeared full for about three days around this time, from Saturday night through Tuesday morning. As the full Moon before the winter solstice, an old European name for this Moon is the Oak Moon, a name that some believe ties back to ancient druid traditions of harvesting mistletoe from oak trees first recorded by the Roman historian Pliny the Elder in the 1st century CE. The term "druid" may derive from the Proto-Indo-European roots for "oak" and "to see," suggesting the term means "oak knower" or "oak seer."

This month’s full moon is the Wolf Moon. Again!

In the 1930's the Maine Farmer's Almanac began publishing "Indian" Moon names for each month of the year. These names have become popular and widely known. The original source of these names is not completely clear, with some indication they came from the Algonquin language as adapted by colonial Americans. In past Moon Missives I've used these Moon names by where they are in the seasons rather than by month, as I thought it likely to be closer to the original tradition (especially if it predated widespread contact with Europeans). After more reading, I've decided to follow the more widely accepted use of these names by month. Probably neither is completely correct. From what I have learned about traditional names given to full Moons prior to the introduction of modern timekeeping, local leaders would usually decide on the name of the Moon based on conditions at the time. These cultures did not generally need calendars that specify exact dates far in advance. Full Moon names were used to describe and remember what happened in the past and to remind of what was likely to come in the near future. Also, there are many different Native American names for the full Moons.
