Part 1 of a Sound recording of an interview I conducted in 1985 with my Grandmother Clara C. Radford (b. 1905 d. 1995). She was 80 years old at the time. It's a bit slow for the first 5 minutes and then Clara becomes more animated as she tells the story of how a neighbor man "tried to steal" her baby brother.
Mrs. Radford was a social worker in Williamson County Offices. She was a Republican precinct committee person for many years and a former member of Lone Oak Baptist church in Energy, Illinois.
She was born July 16, 1905 in Williamson County, Illinois to Rev. Oran and Altha (Butts) Copher. She married Carl Radford.
At the time of her death her survivors included three daughters, Bernadine Jennings of Energy, Lucille Whitehead of Carterville, Maralee Swerman of Kansas City, Mo.; two son-in-laws, Bill Whitehead of Carterville and Bob Swerman of Kansas City, Mo; nineteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, one son, Donald Radford; and one brother, John Copher.


Interview with Clara Copher Radford (1985) Part 1

Part 2 of a Sound recording of an interview I conducted in 1985 with my Grandmother Clara C. Radford (b. 1905 d. 1995). She was 80 years old at the time. In the beginning of this track, Clara mentions, as part of a story, that her father was an "assessor". She means that he served as a Tax Assessor. It's a bit hard to hear that. Also in this installment she includes accounts of her teen years and dating.
