For this edition of our CODECAST Y sessions, where we're trying to bring the dancefloor home due to the situation we're living worldwide and bring to your feed sessions that are more energetic than our usual introspective vibed uploads, we are proud to present a Swedish talent who's selections for sure fit in that new category we're trying to create, Franz Jäger.

With early support and mentoring from Cari Lekebusch he first played at one of the infamous Underground Cult parties followed by numerous gigs all over Sweden including Club ‚mmmmm‘ in Stockholm. As resident of Schimmer Records, from Stuttgart and with his release on HAYES Collective in 2020 and his debut album on Diffuse Reality in 2021, he gained massive attention and received heavy support for his outstanding creative output.
Having had his first international appearance in Berlin for Room Lab shortly after, Franz Jäger is now part of both Schimmer Records and Thrust Agency. 

As he explores the depths of eletronic music with his distinctive combination of organic and broken sounds, he manages to create unique & dynamic atmospheres, full of energy & galloping grooves.

CODECAST Y - Franz Jäger - Mutual Convergence

Mientras en los 80 el centro de España expresaba la liberación socio-política del
país con el hedonismo de lo que después de conocería como “La movida
Madrileña”, en el norte de España se forjaba un sonido punk transgresor y
reivindicativo que marcó toda una generación. Desde entonces Euskadi mantiene la
tradición de una rica cultura musical alternativa.
En ese marco social y cultural crece Mario Castillo conocido actualmente con el
nombre artístico de Kastil. Su interés por la música se nutre directamente del auge
que la música electrónica tiene en la zona norte del país a finales de los 90 y que
coincide con su adolescencia durante la cual iniciará su aprendizaje como DJ.
Posteriormente se verá implicado en la promoción de eventos musicales y clubs
underground en el País Vasco. Será poco después cuando iniciará su producción
musical que definirá su trayectoria a partir de ese momento y que ya nunca dejará
de evolucionar hasta hoy en día.
En 2011 decide crear su propio sello bajo el nombre de “Soul Notes”, enfocado a la
música house underground y que está fuertemente influenciado por el sonido house
americano. La constante evolución de su trabajo como productor así como la
evolución del sonido de club de la escena techno; le lleva de una forma natural y
con clara vocación evolutiva a crear en 2015 un nuevo sello con el nombre de
“Stale”; dedicado al techno underground experimental y en el que edita su propia
música a la vez que invita a productores afines a publicar música de forma
esporádica.
Su pasión por el diseño de sonido, la mezcla y la producción a nivel profesional, le
han empujado en los últimos años a crear un sonido propio característico que
plasma tanto en sus producciones como en sus DJ sets o Live sets y que ha sido
reconocido por la escena internacional de artistas y clubs colocando a Kastil entre
uno de los máximos exponentes del techno de vanguardia internacional actual.
En el inicio de la década de los 20 sigue desarrollando su proyecto y
perfeccionando su sonido, al mismo tiempo que gana reputación como ingeniero de
mastering y colabora con otros artistas en proyectos como “No Spiritual Surrender”
o “Yelling Meltdown”.

Framework co-founder SJ takes the reins for Episode 4 of Yax Invites. Have a read of his bio below, along with some words about his contribution towards the mix series:

I am a 21-year-old DJ based in Manchester UK and co-founder of Manchester based collective and podcast series, Framework. 

My first route into electronic music was around the age of 15 where I started to get in to house music, leading me to gain a strong love for Chicago and Detroit house. Around this time, I basically used to spend hours listening to music on YouTube and through these algorithms I discovered tracks such as Black Russian and all DVS1s early Klockworks releases which remain some of my favourite pieces of music, with DVS1 being my idol and main source of inspiration, and essentially opened up a whole new musical world to me.

This in turn led me deeper into the electronic music spectrum, sparking an interest in Detroit techno, resulting in me seeing artists such as Robert Hood in my mid to late teens. Ever since I have built a strong passion for techno, delving deeper and deeper into the many different facets of the genre which has resulted in my current taste, revolving particularly around deep, sci-fi and mental hypnotic techno as I see this as more than just simply music, it is something much more powerful than that and the ability of music and sonics to alter your mind states and moods on the dance floor is something I find fascinating.

I love the concept of an extended mix series as I feel that extended mixes are the best way to truly portray your sound and tell your story, as opposed to feeling the need to hammer it out from the off which is the instinct that can arise with shorter mixes. 

For this mix I aimed to tell a story, weaving in different atmospheres and textures to build tension and have different twists and turns before ending on some groovier sounds and old school Detroit classics.

Kastil's interest in music is directly nourished by the rise of electronic
music in the northern area of the country at the end of the 90s, which coincides with his adolescence during which he will begin his apprenticeship as a techno DJ at first.

His passion for sound design, mixing and professional production has driven him in recent years to create a characteristic sound of his own that he captures both in his productions and in his DJ or Live sets, and which has been recognized by the international scene of artists and clubs placing Kastil among one of the leading exponents of current international avant-garde techno, playing in some of the most
respected clubs like Berghain, Tresor or Elysia. His live performances have been praised for their innovative approach improvising with modular synthesizers and their ability to push the boundaries of the genre.

Kastil's trajectory has been one of constant evolution, at the beginning of the 20s, he continues to develop his project and refine his sound and gaining reputation by the international music community as a mastering & mixing engineer, working from his
studio refining the sound for some crucial labels in the shadows, and collaborating with other artists on projects such as "No Spiritual Surrender" or "Yelling Meltdown”.

Grown up in the heydays of techno, Mario Castillo quickly gained notoriety for his intense sets and fine skills behind three decks. Owning an afterclub and managing underground parties asserted his maturity, giving shape to a formed independence that led him to start with music production and open his own vinyl label Soul Notes in 2011.
While the imprint achieved great yield in the house club scene, a natural mutation arised towards his roots and the genres of techno, surfacing the new vinyl outfit Stale where he is now immersed with his own recordings and a paired functionality, crafting a fresh artistic range, home to techno and experimental works by Irazu, Deapmash, I-Real and more, and at once extending praise to respected artists with remixes by the likes of Regis, Lag, Pessimist or Acronym.
A few artists have a catalogue as diverse as Kastil, since origin, a gradual change take place, all time pushed forward by a knowledge hunger and impulsivity to master his sound artistry. In this change surge the dedication to drive boundaries to new territories in 2016, giving shape to an improvised live set with modular synths that forces to land unique mastery of musical instruments and his own sound, raising expectation on each show.
With the acclaimed debut album as No Spiritual Surrender with J.C., and a rising solid reputation due latest solo releases played by DVS1, Adam Beyer, Marcel Dettmann, DJ Pete, Cosmin TRG, Dax J, Matrixxman, and Truss, to name a few, he is attaining a place in the international club scene with recent gigs at renowned techno clubs like Tresor or Elysia, and strongly setting up for another successful year.

BIO:
Dyad consists of the two UK techno artists Ben Gibson and Fundamental Interaction. The two techno professionals joined forces for the first time in 2012 after both being featured with solo work on French label CLFT. Realizing they were geographically pretty close (not just where techno was concerned), the two producers befriended each other and jam sessions started taking place in their respective studio spaces. Shortly thereafter, Dyad was formed.
In 2014 the duo founded their own imprint, aptly named Dyad Records, and this is where their first mutual productions were released. Making its very first marks here was a label that since then has become synonym with robust and powerful techno. It is an output created for the pairing to ventilate their own music through (as a duo or as solo artists), but it also proves a point by showcasing and supporting other talent – well- as well as lesser-known. Their “Common Purpose”-series gathers the work of various artists such as Binny, Electric Rescue, Joton, Reflec, Rommek, Setaoc Mass, Stephanie Sykes and VSK. In a time where many labels seem to focus on quantity rather than quality, Dyad Records’ bosses Ben Gibson and Fundamental Interaction restrain themselves for a healthier release schedule (Dyad Records consists of 11 releases to date). The main focus for Dyad is to serve up quality techno, without saturating the market.
A Dyad DJ-set concentrates on the same energy as their studio productions; merciless and raw techno; a straightforward structure of thick kick drums laced with clever, cunning melodic hooks. The peak time-material is very much present, however the couple never shies away from exploring deeper moments either. The band’s studio time is very much focused on conceiving material they want to incorporate into their DJ-sets, turning into a very customized personal performance.
Aside from their own label, Dyad have also achieved to release on respected Don’t Be Afraid and Tsunami Records. Amotik recently requisitioned a remix via his Amotik imprint, and the duo reworked Exal on Prodigal Son and Cirkle’s “Noniya”-release for Dyad Records in 2018. The start of 2019 sees the boys in the preliminary stages of working out a live-set, a new EP will follow up the success on Don’t Be Afraid, as well as contributing one track for a various artists collection by Ressort Imprint. And naturally, new releases on Dyad Records are scheduled.
