ØEN Records is back with a special two track EP from up and coming Copenhagen based producer Fruit (@fruitdj). Originally from Iceland, but based in Denmark, Fruit has been making waves in the Copenhagen club scene with his eloquent DJ and live-sets. Following up his acclaimed 2019 Drømmeland EP he is finally back with two epic, fast-paced and euphoric tracks to light up the summer dance floors.

Drawing inspiration from myths and legends and particularly the Epic of Gilgamesh – a 4000 year old poem from ancient Mesopotamia – “Gilgamesh” is a hypnotic and trancey trip destined for the peak hours of the post-corona parties.

Created during the peak of the pandemic on an old half broken borrowed MacBook, the two distinct but kindred tracks are testament to Fruits unique production style, effortlessly navigating between euphoric fast-paced house, ambient soundscapes, hypnotic percussion and haunting atmospheres. Skillfully crafted and executed “Gilgamesh” is primed for both floor and mind.

ØEN Records are proud to release @hviledag's forthcoming LP "ALBUM FOUND". The album originates from the reel to reel tape loop-based score he composed for the experimental animation film "FILM FOUND" directed by Claudia Munksgaard-Palmqvist.

The project is about exploring materiality and physical mediums of sound and film. FILM FOUND and ALBUM FOUND was made in a symbiotic and organic process, simultaneously, influencing each other along the way. As they were working on the film it became clear that the project had tons of sonic potential which is why the score has now been edited and compiled into a full length album.

The album releases 19 August on vinyl and digital.

The artwork is made by Lille Blomst and features an image that comes from experimental animation film FILM FOUND directed by Claudia Munksgaard-Palmqvist.

  ALBUM FOUND is originally made with a special setup of two quarter inch tape machines that let Hviledag iterate and develop a tapeloop as it’s playing. The output is a stereo file, with no stems, which posed a creative challenge met by the composers in various ways.

"The mix is recorded on some old 1210's with messed up needles I stole from a bar, because they didn't pay what we agreed on. I never really know if they're going to brake when I record with them, which often makes my mixes an unexpected journey. This is a good example of how I end somewhere else than I set out to."

Original press release 1996: “These tracks will not appear on any other Future 3 release in the future - except of course if someone should get the idea of releasing a "Rarities" album in 25 years’ time or so.” Not quite 25, but more than 20 years after its release the "The Boy from West Bronx" is now reissued in a contemporary context with remixes by Århus’ finest: Central, Ti (DJ Sports) and C.K!

Released in 1996 on seminal Danish label April Records “The Boy from West Bronx” is a timeless breakbeat classic, which along with other Future 3 releases came to define the forefront of Danish electronic music in the late nineties. Up to this day the trio have had a huge influence on the contemporary Danish electronic scene, releasing music together as Future 3 and System and individually as Dub Tractor (Anders Remmer), Acustic (Jesper Skaaning) and Opiate (Thomas Knak).

The voyage continues with the second instalment of A.dixen’s Death Tapes Trilogy. Following Vol. 1’s dark ambient and hazy meditative melodies Vol. 2 adds jungle breaks, broken beats and pulsing drum machine patterns into the mix. Building on the textured and layered soundscapes from the previous album, Vol. 2 is a natural progression and further exploration of the haunting Death Tapes universe.

Across the albums 12 tracks A.dixen creates a hypnotic and deeply personal journey navigating feelings of love and loss, fear and hope, traversing through otherworldly and ethereal atmospheres and emotions. Composed and recorded in Copenhagen during spring and summer 2019, the album is crafted on his modular synth merged with organic source material and distorted field recordings. Death Tapes Vol. 2 is the second instalment in a trilogy set to release during 2019 and 2020.

“After the Flood”, the sixth album by Danish musician and composer Jens B. Christiansen under his Rumpistol moniker, is something of a departure from his previous efforts in a lot of ways. After having suffered from a severe stress-related burn-out the artist had to completely alter the way he works.

Looking at computer screens gave Jens B. Christensen, whose 16-year career primarily has been within the field of electronic music, headaches and made him nauseated, and so he was forced to work in a completely new, quite minimalistic manner. These 12 new compositions all stem from composing on the piano. Therapeutically, as well as artistically, this turned out to be rewarding, which is evident when listening to “After the Flood”, which has an uplifting, ethereal quality to it, yet remains tangible, almost tactile, in its use of organic, non-electronic instruments and textures. As refreshingly new this musical direction is for a Rumpistol album it’s also somewhat familiar sounding to fans of the artist. The melodies seem to ebb and flow, undulating around each other, in that particular Rumpistol way that point forward (and perhaps even upwards, celestially), yet evokes memories of past works, like the strings on “Beito” from the album “Dynamo”.

The musical core, much like the works of likeminded composers like Nils Frahm and Max Richter, of “After the Flood” is the piano, but Jens B. Christiansen also composed parts for other musicians to join in on these post-catastrophe neoclassical works. This ensemble consists of Line Felding (cello), Maria Jagd (violin/viola), Kristian Hoffmann (lap steel guitar), Mike Sheridan (cristal baschet), Povl Kristian (saw), and Anna Juuliska Nykvist (flute). Jens B. Christiansen also incorporated field recordings of his every-day life using analogue recording media such as reel-to-reel tape, VHS and cassette tape as well as ASMR triggers such as gentle whispering. This doesn’t mean that “After the Flood” merely is music to casually relax to. Although the album sounds very pleasing to the ear, it’s an engaging and thought-provoking listening experience.
