Local sportsmen, hunters, and fisherman are already seeing the impact of climate change on their way of life, and call for common-sense plans that take responsibility for protecting future generations and our Tennessee heritage from climate change.

Chris Polk, a middle Tennessee sportsman and firefighter said, “If you’ve tasted well water…bagged a nice deer during season and felt the pull of a Tennessee large-mouth bass on your fishing line, you know we can’t afford to lose all of this because of climate change because we didn’t have the courage to take responsibility for caring for our climate.”
“I’m grateful and absolutely applaud Senator Alexander for protecting my right to fish on the Cumberland, I want him to know I support his efforts to curb climate change’s impact on the very fish and game populations that are so crucial to enjoying our Tennessee heritage.” said Bob Freeman, a frequent hunter and fisherman of Tennessee mountains.  
 “We have a moral obligation to future generations to leave them a planet that’s not polluted and damaged by carbon pollution,” said State Representative Jason Powell, “Just like our parents and grandparents handed us a better planet, we need to be responsible stewards of the earth.”
Gretchen Hagle with the Tennessee Environmental Council added,  “Natural resources truly form the backbone of our economy, our quality of life, and our Tennessee heritage.  Hunting and fishing are an important part of our TN heritage and Tennessee Environmental Council is concerned about the impact of our climate on natural resources, human and wildlife habitat.”

Bob Tuke Bob was an active duty Marine officer from 1969-1973 and served in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry in combat, among other decorations. He is currently chairman of the Tennessee State Veterans Homes Board and President of the Board of Operation Stand Down Nashville, Inc., a veterans service organization.
Earik Beann lives in Franklin, TN and owns the software technology company Wave59.
Congressman Lincoln Davis served 8 years in the US House of Representatives representing Tennessee’s Fourth Congressional District. He served on the Appropriations Committee and Science Committee in 2009 and 2010. Prior to joining the Appropriations Committee, he served on the Financial Service Committee, the Transportation Committee and the Agriculture Committee.

Washington, D.C. – Today Tennessee taxpayers personally met with Senator Corker and Senator Alexander in Washington, D.C. to send a clear message: stop putting millionaires ahead of the middle class, end the tax breaks for the top 2%.   For months, Republicans in Congress have held the middle-class hostage to tax cuts for the wealthiest two percent of Americans. 

The group of Tennesseans at the meeting included wealthy long time Chattanooga resident Lenda Sherrell (now of Monteagle);  veteran and single father Jason Gurchiek of Murfreesboro; Meechie Biggers of Lewisburg who cares for her mother on Medicare; and former small business owner, Donna Seely of Tullahoma.
