The Limited Series reaches it’s 10th release milestone with another 5 track compilation from some of our favourite artists at the moment. BPLS010 is a collection of leftfield UK Techno and broken beats for the dancefloor.

The opening track comes from Bristol based Yushh, head at the Pressure Dome Label, with “Fidget Spanner” featuring a hypnotic garage vocal looped over steppy techno drums, followed by Kincaid on the A2, who returns to the label after his latest split EP “Single Cell” on BP016, this time working with vocalist J. Caesar on the deep spoken word trip of “Inside”.

Tristan Arp, one half of the Asa Tone project, also returns after his solo EP “Slip” on BP012 in 2020, with “Circling The Abyss” with a refreshing use of the Cello laid expertly on polyrhythmic drum patterns. PinballSpider makes their label debut with a warm and stripped back minimal ear worm on “In One Ear”, while Johnny Hunter, Pleasure Club Label favourite, closes things off with the drum heavy percussion of “89’ Brakes”. Always open to experimentation, Welsh imprint Haŵs welcomes Wyatt to the family. Comprising five evocative, glossy cuts, the ‘Netherwood’ EP is a time capsule back to his hometown, turning memories into alchemical moments experienced under a blazing sun or by the light of a full moon.

The opening ‘Sewell’ sails through a sensory voyage of stripped-back breakbeat, travel intercom samples and earworm melodies. ‘Netherwood’ snakes into a trippy pace, carving an indefinable sculpture of synth melodies nestled between weightless ambient.

On the B-side, ‘Mousehold’ launches into a peak-time club number, its initial drive of drums and bass tempered down by emotive accents that feel like a coy dance between yin and yang. ‘Tombland’ slinks into a shadow-cast realm of melancholy and introspection, joining the hands of broken beat and synth lines into a melodic collaboration drunk on its private thoughts. To close, ‘Heathgate’ retreats into a hopeful murmur, reflecting its quiet, percussive optimism back at itself through tear-stained melodies and a glassy bass.

Sometimes, existential introspection happens through external movement. ‘Netherwood’ is a catalyst for those epiphanies.

“F. Free & H. Hand take control of HOTONES001, with a reissue of a not just rare but colossally fabled record that only ever made it to test press in 1995. Ten copies were produced of this three-track excursion into the analogue heavy echelons of a deranged technosphere. 

‘Headwash’ shudders through your body like electricity, off-kilter bleeps miraculously balancing the composition, while a menacing bassline inflates your lower body, and some. ‘After All’ drops the pace, employing the iconic Ensoniq DP-4 to create moist, meandering patterns that epitomise the 90s hedonistic German subculture in which the record was developed. The record’s finale, ‘J.S.B #2’ is the most ruckus cut of the lot, playing with heavy leads, synesthesia inducing scenes of strobe lights are inevitable - pair the two, and you have outright carnage. 

This is music for smoked out, fast and long raves. Do not sleep.”
