A poet, playwright, performer and graphic artist, he is used to inhabiting different worlds. In this conversation Inua takes us on a tour of his imagination. Exploring his views on art and migration, tales of his travels through Africa’s barbershops, and his journey into the hidden corners of the city, we try to find the roots of his restless creativity.


Episode 1: Inua Ellams - Shifting Paths

I'm not a very good producer so that's why I just try to make fun in the studio. It's not going to bring me any awards but it does result in cool stuff from time to time. 

For this track I wanted to make something hardcore!
But no 2019 style..... Oldschool....early rave, that's what I wanted!

I told myself I could only use original gabber samples. So all the bassdrums, percussion and synths are vintage hardcore sounds. 909 claps, infamous sounds and Neophyte Bassdrums. 

I really wanted to go back to basics. So I almost didn't use any effects and present day studio magic. I wanted to make this track just like it was created in a hardcore studio back in 1997. It was hard to keep things simple but I really wanted to stay true to the concept. 

For the release I wanted a typical 90's cover! I designed it myself including the Pat B smiley who turned into a gabber cyborg or something like that lol.
