After bringing you cutting edge tropical sounds from established global bass artists like Buraka Som Sistema, Branko or Dengue Dengue Dengue!, it's time for the Upper Cuts series to bring you something completely new. And by new we mean really new. 

We were sitting in the office going through the mountain of promos in our inbox, when we found an email by a British producer named Castro. We opened it, not knowing what to expect, and what we found was Toot Toot, one of the most addictive zouk bass tunes we've heard since the whole craze started in the Boiler Room. We just had to have it here and now. 

Join us in welcoming Castro, a British producer whose background as a percussionist and love of ethnic rhythms gives his tracks a distinctive bounce, which he complements with an extensive knowledge of the dancefloor's demands. In the latest track on the Upper Cuts series, Castro pairs up heavy drums with vibrant synths and colorful melodies, all under the hypnotic 90bpm pace that Buraka helped to popularize, with some moombah elements and vocal samples thrown in for good measure. 

Besides having one of the most addictive beats we've heard in months, Castro's first single Toot Toot is one of those tracks that just inspires us to have a good time. Let's play this one loud and bring the fun back to the dancefloor.

The almighty Buraka Som Sistema join the Upper Cuts free download series on a mission to give the world yet another musical genre to dance to. The tropical downtempo madness of first 15 minutes of their now legendary Boiler Room set marked the introduction of Zouk Bass, a brand new tropical hybrid born from the meeting of the French Antillan rhythms of zouk - and its Lusophone relative kizomba - with the bass-heavy styles of the UK underground. 

Zouk Flute is the name of the track that brings the slow and sexy zouk rhythms to the 21st century clubs. A mischievous and downright hypnotic melody instantly puts you in the mood for dancing in dimly lit rooms, giving the style's tropical heritage a dangerous modern edge. While the charming synths reel you in, the heavy slow-paced beats and thick sub-bass pressure promise to keep you nailed to the dancefloor, ocasionally breaking the spell to ask the DJ for yet another rewind. 

As it happened all those years ago with the fast-paced Angolan rhythms of kuduro, yet another tropical revolution in electronic dance music can be traced back to Buraka Som Sistema's studio. While the beats radically change this time around, the need to make people dance their troubles away stays the same. Because dancing is always the best remedy, why not do it a bit slower?

After Branko kickstarted the Upper Cuts series with his stunning Njena Reddd Foxxx collaboration and Buraka Som Sistema contributed with the genre-defining Zouk Flute, now it’s time for another Buraka founding member to enter the series. We’re talking about Riot, the eclectic DJ and producer who started the global kuduro revolution with Branko and the rest of the crew, and is still turning heads on the Portuguese drum&bass and dubstep scene.

Since it was up to him to close the first Upper Cuts season in style, he decided to surprise everyone with a personal take on the fresh Zouk Bass genre by fusing slow Caribbean-influenced beats with the fast-paced rhythm of drum&bass. This unlikely blend has produced some amazing results and is already finding its way into the digital DJ bags of several prominent artists such as DJ Zinc, Toddla T, Brodinski, Nick Catchdubs, Dave Nada and Astronomar, among many others rushing to show support.
