But the man with the hair, and the man without the hair are so amazed that they’re still going, still here, still bloody doing it, and doing it with such aplomb, that they thought another album of great music from some of their favourite people was due. For the latest instalment of the 1 More Mix series we dive headfirst into the hectic inner city heat and intensity of Delhi; home of UKato, an artist currently neck deep in beats, digging deep foundations for the city’s burgeoning new love for drum & bass culture.

You might recognise him from his Program release in late 2021 – Delhi Shuffler. A grizzly, murky, relentless piece of roller work that scored him an interview on UKF, a feature on Vision Radio and support from DJs such as Rene La Vice on BBC Radio 1, Slander and numerous Indian DJs. 

But here’s what came next… Rather than jump on the breakthrough buzz, rinse out a few similar tracks and focus on building a reputation in the usual D&B spots in Europe, UKato focused on his own scene and put everything into contributing to the blossoming bass culture in India. 

Working with fellow Delhi beatmaker Kreon, and linking with other organisations such as Drum & Bass India, Boxout, All Star Sauce and Krunk to name a few. UKato is in the midst of an exciting Indian D&B wave that’s championing, inspiring and incubating local talent across the entire country.

He’s also become inspired himself, as you can hear this week with a brand new track Premonition. 

A collaboration with Three Oscillators (AKA Brij Dalvi, a multi-genre spanning talent who’s been a huge champion of Indian electronic artists, especially on the experimental side, for years) Premonition is a powerful snapshot of both artists’ spicy take on dark, heavyweight underground music. 

More is set to follow. As we wait to hear it, please enjoy this exclusive 1 More Mix edition from UKato. From India with love, this is the sound of a scene that’s on the precipice of what could eventually become one of drum & bass biggest territories…

DIGITAL LOVE

Atmospheric grand master Okee returns to Codename: RCRDS with two stunning new tracks, which are complemented by reworks from label co-owner Moakz and rising stars Missen.

The EP opens with the title track ‘Soul Temptation’, a sublime jazz-inflected which has all the hallmarks of a classic Okee piece – classic vocals, beautifully precise breaks, percussive bass fills and warm synths and tones.

‘If You Believe’ moves things into a deeper direction, encouraging the listener to believe in its refined combination of stabbing bass, catchy vocals, haunting atmospheres and intricate synth work.

Moakz pushes the track further on his rework of ‘If You Believe’, stripping back elements to pursue a darker edge with the pounding bass brought to the fore alongside chunky deep breaks interspersed with snappy think breaks, before Missen close the EP with their uptempo rework of ‘Soul Temptation’, which retains the soulfulness of the original whilst pushing things further into a bouncier dancefloor direction with it’s locked groove and tightly knitted drums.
