this is an original demo, written with Jim Fairchild (Modest Mouse) in Elliot Smith's Los Angeles studio. at the end of the day we recorded this rendition in one take, together in the same room on a couple of microphones. it is unassuming and unfinished, the result of two strangers meeting and interacting through music. 

the perfectionist in me is uneasy with the decision to put it out into the world, as I am human and I fear judgement and I fear my own flaws and I fear the reality that we all face every day: hate is everywhere and it is spreading like a disease and it is blaring across our screens in our hands and homes. 

Jim has since become a friend and collaborator, and we speak often about social and economical injustice and what we can do as artists to use our voices for encouraging change and forward thinking. 

in light of the circumstances we have found ourselves in as a country and throughout our world, we decided to contribute this to the conversation - flawed, uncertain at times, a shot in the dark. it is imperfect and so am I and if anything, it is honest.

if you ever feel like your voice is too small to be heard, your body too tired to move, all cried out and at the end of every rope, this is for you.
