"Music chose me." Whenever asked about her work, this is the first line out of her mouth. And you would think so also if you knew her history. With a grandfather who is a former member of a salsa band, a mother who is a former ballerina, brother who is a professional dancer and sister who is a singer, Kno Sleep knows her talent formation is no coincidence.  At the age of 6 she began singing simply because her older sister told her she would never be able to. That same year she decided to write a poem for her mom as a Mother's Day gift. "There was something about the words and the way I formed them that intrigued me", she explained softly. From then on, she knew music was all she wanted to focus on. Her mother was always supportive, but didn't know exactly where her forte lied. She put her in violin classes, chorus and even band. Kno Sleep continued writing but didn't start rapping until age 12. The first instrumental she wrote to? Tupac's Hail Mary. Life was rough around that time. She experienced a family tragedy that she chose not to discuss, and writing was the only thing that helped. "Counseling, depression pills, none of that worked. Hip Hop was therapeutic", she stated. She chose to hide it from her mother because she was afraid she would laugh it off and tell her to focus on school. Throughout the next few years she continued to play different instruments and sing, but hip hop never was forgotten. Every time life got rough, she turned to the pen and pad, but she didn't decide to pursue music as a lifelong career until the age of 23. She got quite a buzz going and performed at numerous venues including Club Skye, Jannus Landing, the Pegasus Lounge and Crowbar just to name a few. There was something missing though. A better understanding of the business aspect was needed, so she put the recording and shows on halt. After years of doing research on every aspect of the industry, she is ready to get back in the mix. "You can't prosper in this business without the proper knowledge. I'm in no condition to fall flat on my face again", she said firmly. Currently putting together her first official mixtape, Kno Sleep has finally found her footing and has no intentions of stopping. "All the tools are in my hands. I just have to use them correctly and watch the magic happen. I know I'll make more mistakes, but that doesn't bother me. In order to learn from them, you have to make them right? I embrace all learning experiences and look forward to every blunder. All that matters is that I'm doing what I love.
