The Red Serpent

There is perhaps more to tell about the title than the song itself. While making this one I found a sound that’s called ‘Light Bulb’ (by Mikro Prism which I use with Reaktor). At first it was a totally different song (and I will work on this initial idea later on I think) and found a nice melody. I went with this melody and created this. Anyway, I was thinking about a title and found out about a so called incandescent light bulb that is recognized as the oldest known operating light bulb. According to Wikipedia “[i]t was first illuminated in 1901, and has only been turned off a few brief times since. It is located at 4550 East Avenue, Livermore, California, and is open to public viewing.” So that was interesting. First I wanted to make an anagram with the word ‘light bulb’ (with disappointing results) followed by an attempt to find an anagram for ‘centennial bulb’ (because these two words combined.. you know.. it just sounds a bit weird to me). I couldn’t find a nice anagram for this one either. So I ended up with this title. The picture I took during one of my flights and it just fitted the title. The distorted sound also comes from a setting from MikroPrism and it is called ‘Church Glass”. With some nice distortion of CamelCrusher it almost sounds like a guitar. I love playing guitar and like to make sounds in my DAW sound like a distorted guitar.

"I made this track for Shorlax’s Daydreaming show on Kiosk Radio. There was a special edition featuring music from the artists performing at his upcoming event in Brussels.

In the track I used a sample I cut years ago, but I can’t remember the author. I only remember it was a Japanese media artist. If anyone recognizes it, please let me know so I can give proper credit."

This was one of the first tracks I made at the start of the pandemic whenever I was figuring out how to cope with what was happening around the world. I would just walk around the empty city listening to music with no destination. I discovered a few new nice walking routes though haha

I decided to call the track 'Golden Mile' as that was the name given to the stretch of road from Queen's University, down the Dublin Road and along Great Victoria Street in the centre of Belfast because it was the busiest spot in the city at the time. It was strange walking through it and not a soul in sight, but I'm looking forward to the day it's back in action! 🍻🍻

I took this photo for the artwork a couple weeks back at the beach down in Hollywood. I feel it works well for the track title as I also like to think of the 'Golden Mile' as a long stretch of beach 🏖️
