Hold Fast, My Dear

Scott James is a British singer-songwriter and rapper. Citing influences as Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Tracy Chapman and eclectically, U.S rappers 2Pac and Nas. His work is imbued with the efforts of a conscientious songwriter. As a former teacher of poetry workshops his lyrics are inimitable. Combining an introspective rap style with traditional singer/songwriter genre, he has a unique standing among artists. His intimate shows have brought him a dedicated following with performances known for their poignancy.
 
Born in Gloucestershire and raised in the historical region of The Forest of Dean, an inspirational setting for writers/poets such as J. K. Rowling, J. R. R. Tolkien and Robert Frost. His cultural landscape of words and imagery contrasted sharply to that of urban contemporaries in London and New York. Choosing to write songs reflecting his inherited surroundings, he says he is drawn to English poets like John Keats and Edward Thomas for the same reason.
 
Following successful shows including sell out’s at London’s O2 Academy2 and Cheltenham Literature Festival 2019, Scott is beginning to make a name for himself. Hailed ‘The Bob Dylan of Rap’ by CLF, he has invoked comparisons to both Dylan and Cohen with his evocative lyricism.
 
His latest single ‘Hold Fast, My Dear’ was released in November 2020 . Recording every instrument himself and producing the song in his home studio, he is definitely a formidable artist on the rise.
