‘Collide’ is about trying to make something work with someone when it’s not the right time. Sometimes, you need time apart from that person to change and grow, and so do they. The song is about reigniting that connection after some time spent being apart.

So happy to get this one out, it's been a long time coming. Writing this was a whole journey. So many setbacks and roadblocks along the way, I'll actually be releasing a little video documentary on it shortly. Anyway, hope you enjoy this one, here's the story behind it: 

Always Know follows the journey of saying goodbye to true love. The song holds out for hope whilst letting go of the right person, wrong time. There’s a promise made that even though there is an end — you are never really alone, no matter where you are or where you go.

This song catalyzed the creation of an upcoming project I’ve been working on. The song felt like a sudden burst of light and energy after having writer's block for several weeks. So after making the instrumental, I decided to write the lyrics about always pushing forward no matter what. The first step of pushing forward is letting go of what you can’t control.

I approached this song differently than anything I’ve made before. Instead of using a software instrument, I started by recording chords from my Casio keyboard from its speakers into a room mic. This way I could capture the ambiance of the keys being pressed and the nature sounds outside my open window. My goal was to make it as simple and organic as possible. I recorded all vocals in 1-2 takes into a stage mic (Shure SM58). Following the simplicity of the production, I wanted the lyrics to match with a 1-2 line phrase that could be repeated the whole song. I like the idea of how honesty in a relationship can be messy at times. Honesty in a relationship can be a double-edged sword - the truth may seem unbearable, but it’s often necessary.
