After 35 years serving time for a murder she didn't commit, Cathy Woods was exonerated when DNA evidence cleared her of Michelle Mitchell's killing. It sounds like a happy ending, but the investigation and trial make it clear police departments in two separate states didn't care about finding justice. The second episode where mistreatment of a mentally ill person results in the unacceptable.... And a possible serial killer and convicted rapist is irrefutably linked. After a guilty conviction in 1980 was overturned, Woods was resentenced in 1985. When she was finally released in 2014, she held the longest sentence served before being exonerated. This case was requested by Sara at the conclusion of our interview about Jason Eschevarria's death at Riker's Island (Episode #3). When a young black woman with disabilities is found murdered in East Portland, veteran homicide investigators are left reeling. The scene reveals an especially depraved murder... Of Myth and Mercy is a true crime podcast with a real modus operandi of its own: We do our best to focus on obscure, lesser-known cases, events, subject matter, and incidents, specifically ones involving the marginalized of society.
