Once upon a time there was an event series called Monsters of Love.  It occurred annually on Valentine’s Day at an artist warehouse in San Francisco called 5lowershop.  The main room would be filled with weird bands making eclectic music, wearing tutus and playing vacuums, while in the kitchen, vinyl Hardcore DJs ruled.  Break-fast! This past Valentine’s Day, I wanted to honor the memory of those fine events with this Monsters of Love DJ set.   Monster tracks vs love songs (hardcore, techno, pop, and modern rock; this multi-genre mix first appeared on Mainstream Pollution podcast with Low Entropy's set as the first half-- this is the stand alone GabberGirl half).  
And to honor Jeff Mohr’s tradition of hand-drawn Monsters of Love fliers, of little monsters climbing speakers and each other, I have made physical art to go with this DJ set.

Veteran German Electronic Producer • Label Owner • Scene Historian

Sönke Moehl, better known in the underground electronic music world as Low Entropy, is a prolific and influential producer, DJ, label head, author, and curator from Hamburg, Germany, whose work has helped shape the landscape of experimental Hardcore Techno and its extreme subgenres for more than three decades.

Born in 1980, Low Entropy discovered Techno, Hardcore, and rave culture during the mid-1990s and began producing music at the age of 16. From the very beginning, his sound pushed beyond convention, exploring the outer limits of electronic music through Hardcore, Speedcore, Breakcore, Acidcore, Doomcore, and Dark Ambient influences.

Over the years, he has amassed an extensive and diverse discography, with hundreds of releases across vinyl, CD, cassette, and digital formats. His work has appeared on numerous respected underground labels before he went on to establish his own platforms, solidifying his reputation as both a creator and curator within the global hardcore community.

In 2012, Low Entropy founded Doomcore Records, a Hamburg-based label dedicated to dark, heavy, and experimental forms of repetitive electronic music. This vision later expanded into Slowcore Records, focusing on ultra-low-tempo and minimalist hardcore and techno, and Omnicore Records, a broader outlet encompassing a wide spectrum of electronic styles.

Beyond music production and label work, Low Entropy is the publisher of The Hardcore Overdogs, a long-running e-zine and cultural archive devoted to documenting, preserving, and celebrating Hardcore Techno culture, with a strong emphasis on underground artists, historical context, and scene integrity. He is also the author of several books examining techno culture from both a musical and sociological perspective.

His contributions extend into event promotion and broadcasting, including involvement in underground radio projects and party series that played a key role in exposing experimental hardcore sounds to wider audiences, particularly in northern Europe.

Today, Low Entropy stands as a respected figure of the international underground, continuing to produce, release, document, and support uncompromising electronic music while remaining deeply rooted in the culture that inspired him from the start.

Laura Kaotik is New York DJ that has worked her way up the DJ latter. Her love for electronic music and the rave scene started in the late 80s/90's, where she was a regular at clubs and raves. In the NY rave scene, Laura discovered hardcore techno and immediately was in love with the genre. As things changed over the years, she decided to take a hiatus from the scene.  Fast forward about 8 years, she returned to the dance scene and decided to take the music she loved to another level. She learned how to mix and also re-connected with the hardcore scene  traveling to the Netherlands to attend the festivals. This was something that in her younger years seemed completely impossible. The festivals were a game changer, inspiring her to become a hardcore DJ. Her first few years consisted of the hardcore styles she heard in the Netherlands; BPM's ranging from 200 to 300.  Laura has presently embraced the slower yet darker style, and also expanded into other genres as well playing hard, dark drum & bass.  She is now a resident DJ on RTDFRAVERADIO.COM and has had the opportunity of playing out at live events around the NYC area.
