Guglielmo Brambilla is a product designer based between Milan, London, and Seoul, where he currently lives. Trained in Italy and Denmark, he worked for Nicholai Wiig Hansen, Philippe Malouin, Bethan Laura Wood, and Fabrica. 

He is fascinated by material culture, by the narrative power of objects, and by the rituals related to them. He believes in the importance of traditions but also in the necessity to recontextualize them through the introduction of new artefacts and habits. His projects have been exhibited at Triennale Design Museum, Fuorisalone, and MARQ in Buenos Aires. 

In 2019, AD Italia selected him amongst the "Seven for the Future", the new generation of Italian designers.

Ziggie Bruhn is a Danish Born Artist (1979). She has been a fashion model from age 15 to 25 in multiple countries such as France, Denmark, Korea, Japan, United Kingdom, and Italy. After her Art Study at the London Metropolitan University Foundation and at the Folk Art School in Holbæk in Copenhagen, she also spent a year at Hb Studio Theatre art in New York. Ziggie is an experienced Kundalini yoga teacher; she trained in Los Angeles golden bridge with Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa, she learned to teach pregnant yoga in Sweden with Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa, and also she had a Reike healer education in Rishikesh India. She had an art show at Pavilion 11 in Kongens, Denmark. She teaches drawing classes for kids in Ryesgade Copenhagen and these days you can find Ziggie in her Shop called ‘Ziggie Bruhn Art’ Bredgade 14 in Copenhagen.

Dr Kim Barbour is a qualitative new media scholar and tenured Senior Lecturer in the Department of Media at the University of Adelaide. Kim’s research looks at online persona, the strategic production of identity through digital media, and particularly focuses on the domestic use of social media. She teaches into the undergraduate Bachelor of Media degree, and supervises Honours and Post-Graduate student research.
Kim is the co-founding and managing editor of the Persona Studies journal, an online, open access journal exploring the construction of the public self. Her co-authored book Persona Studies: An Introduction (Wiley Blackwell) was released in 2019. She has published articles in Celebrity Studies, TDR: The Drama Review, M/C Journal, Media International Australia, and First Monday. Kim has chapters in edited collections published by Palgrave McMillan, Routledge, and Adelaide University Press.

Michela Bassanelli, PhD, is Assistant Professor in Interior Architecture and Exhibition Design at the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies of Politecnico di Milano. Her research focuses on domestic interiors, exhibition design, and practices of disseminating collective memory through a multidisciplinary theoretical approach. Flavio and Prisca discuss the research project ‘Domenic Boundaries’ which looks at how the house is becoming more public and, vice versa, how the city is getting domesticated. Flavio explains why these socio-economic phenomenons are happening, what are the current influences on cities and houses and how the pandemic played a role in speeding up many of these processes. Flavio Martella holds a master’s degree in architecture and engineering from the Università degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata, and is a doctoral candidate in architecture at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid where he researches the expansion of the concept of domesticity into the urban (and vice versa). He has been a researcher at West Virginia University for the conceptualisation and development of an experimental prototype of self-sufficient housing, first built in Los Angeles and then exhibited at the Tellus Museum in Cartersville. As an architect he worked in different practices in The Netherlands, Italy and Spain, where he participated in the development of numerous relevant projects, exhibitions, and research projects presented at the Biennials of Rotterdam, Seoul, Orleans and the Tabacalera in Madrid.

He is a professor at the Master in Architectural Communication at UPM, and has been invited as guest lecturer in the Master in Collective Housing at UPM and ETH. Since 2018 he is co-founder of m²ft architects, where he develops projects, exhibitions and research projects aware of the contemporary dissolution of dualities, trying to establish new possible connections with architecture and other disciplines. His projects have been awarded and published in different platforms, magazines and books.

Paulina Yurman is an industrial designer, researcher and lecturer in industrial design at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. Her work is informed by critical and speculative design research, often exploring the ambivalence of designed artefacts and the associated behaviours these may incite. Greg Noble is Professor of Cultural Research at the Institute for Culture and Society, Western Sydney University. Yuka Oyama is a Japanese-German artist who grew up in Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, USA and Germany. She has lived and worked in Berlin since 2003. Oyama’s artistic practice incorporates sculpture, jewellery, video, photography, public interventions, choreographic experimentations and performances. Her life-sized, wearable sculptures function as material provocations that explore the disconnections often felt in contemporary life: the degeneration of human-to-human emotional communication and our sense of belonging. Everyday objects are used to upset these disconnections, facilitating our ability to act beyond set conventions. As object-human hybrids – objectified humans and personified objects – the sculptures are often worn in public theatrical settings to encourage participants to feel more imaginative, gain a different understanding of self and improve capacity to connect to others.

Alaa is a London-based visual artist, designer and creative facilitator. Paolo Boccagni is a Professor in Sociology (University of Trento). He has published in migration, home, diversity and social welfare studies. He is currently doing comparative research on the lived experience of home, with a particular focus on the temporalities and boundary-making of asylum seekers in reception facilities. His emerging research interests involve the practice of homing, the social working of metaphor, the ways of coping with absence and distance, and the significance of future-related imaginaries and practices.

Sam Gosling is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Texas, Austin. His research focuses on the psychology of physical space, how personality is expressed in everyday context, and on new methods for collecting data in the behavioral sciences. His approach is ecological, emphasizing the importance of studying individuals in the contexts of their natural habitats. His current work aims to use psychology to inform architectural practice. His book “Snoop: What your stuff says about you” is based on the idea that we deliberately and inadvertently express our personalities in the environments in which we live and work. Clarivate have identified him as one of the most highly cited scientists in the world.

What's the value of home and objects during the lockdown? In our interview series we discuss with relevant professionals about home, objects, social isolation experiences due to Covid-19 pandemic, as well as projects and articles that look at the topics from multiple views. 

The interview series is part of the social project called Oggetti Socievoli - which translates in english as Sociable Objects - to bring attention to homes and home-objects along with their social interaction values. The initiative invited the public during the spring of 2020 to share a photo, with a short note, of discovered, rediscovered and reinterpreted home objects during social isolation due to Covid-19 Pandemic. It resulted in hundreds of submissions and a bilingual book publication ‘The season of home objects’ which showcases those participations along with essays by invited artists, writers, designers, academics in a social study of home objects in relation to people’s lockdown experiences.
