‘Okay Then’ is the first single from the forthcoming '3 More Nights In Amsterdam' EP to coincide with the 5th anniversary vinyl release of Kenyan-New Zealand songwriter and rapper JessB’s breakthrough EP, ‘3 Nights In Amsterdam’ (2020).

Set within the neon-lit atmosphere of Amsterdam after dark, ‘Okay Then’ evokes the borderless slipstreams that connect hip-hop, dancehall and afrobeats, dressing her sweaty, nightlife stories in carefully constructed ragga and rap cadences. It’s a nocturnal soundtrack for things that happen after midnight in the club. “You ain’t gotta speak, cause your body talk enough. Meet you at the hip, come grip get it done.”

After being announced as a top-five finalist for the APRA 2025 Silver Scroll Award and a featured performer at the inaugural edition of the Afrosoul festival in Auckland, JessB is ready to reflect on a pivotal moment in her career.

After previously releasing the single ‘Okay Then’ JessB is back with '3 More Nights In Amsterdam' to coincide with the 5th anniversary release of the Kenyan-New Zealand songwriter and rapper breakthrough EP, ‘3 Nights In Amsterdam’ (2020).

When she arrived in the capital city of the Netherlands in 2019, the Kenyan-New Zealand songwriter and rapper was already a firebrand force for hip-hop creativity. In her heart, however, she had a vision of creating music that was more borderless: a hypnotic, hip-hugging melange of US and UK rap, and the equally rich Caribbean and African traditions of dancehall and afrobeats.

Over the course of an extended weekend of nocturnal studio sessions in the Venice of the north, she realised the first iteration of her vision while working with the multi-platinum Dutch producer MOW Music. “From the first beat he played me, I was like ‘Whoa!’” she remembers. “The music scene in Amsterdam, in general, is all these genres existing together in this diasporic pool of sound. So the same guy making all these beats that were different but worked together made sense.”

Five years on, 3 More Nights In Amsterdam EP features three tracks produced by Dutch producer MOW Music: ‘Okay Then’, ‘Boohoo’, and ‘Don’t Stop’ featuring Jamaican dancehall artist Roze Don, as well as a captivating Baltimore Club-style remix of ‘Bullseye’ produced by HalfQueen & Pasquinel.

‘Say My Name’ is a delightfully unexpected electronic dance collaboration between globally-renowned Kenyan-New Zealand songwriter and rapper JessB and chart-topping Sydney-based producer Tasker (3%, Chillinit, Kinder). 

Written and recorded in Sydney when the pair of itinerant creatives ventured within each other's orbits, ‘Say My Name’ is an undeniably after-dark affair reminiscent of Beams era Presets, powered by pulsating rhythms, charismatic percussion, and expertly guided along by JessB’s iconically staunch and hypnotic flow.

“‘Say my name’ speaks to the whirlwind of connecting with someone whilst knowing it might only be for a fleeting moment. It’s a fun dance track that speaks to the idea of future nostalgia whilst still in the moment,” says the track’s lyricist and vocalist JessB, with Tasker adding, “Jess and I have had this record in the vault for a little while and it felt like the right time to share it with the world. Jess is a superstar. I’m blessed to be putting out a record with her.”

‘Say My Name’ caps off a banner year for both creatives that saw JessB snare a top-five finish in the 2025 APRA Silver Scroll Awards and get a guernsey for the inaugural Afrosoul festival in Auckland, and Tasker claim ‘Best Breakthrough Producer’ at the 2025 MPEG Awards in the wake of two ARIA Australian Albums Chart #1 debuts behind the boards for Rum Jungle and The Terrys on the other side of the Tasman. ‘Say My Name’ is accompanied by a charming DIY visualiser shot live on location at a party in JessB’s native Auckland.

JessB knows her way around a party tune, but she also knows how to bury deeper messages of sadness, loss and dislocation inside club riddims, earworm melodies and tongue-twisting rhyme schemes. Born in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa, to a Kenyan father and a Pākehā mother, her music explores authenticity, personal growth, and connection, with the stamina of a professional athlete, the sensitivity of a textbook cancer sign, and the unfettered creativity of an artist who embraces change.

The co-founder of the storied Tamaki Makaurau QTPOC club night FILTH, JessB, has spent the last seven years traversing Aotearoa, Australia, Asia, Europe, and the UK, through the shared global cultures that connect hip-hop, R&B, dancehall, ragga and afrobeats. Along the way, she’s shared stages with Kehlani, recorded with Kranium, Sister Nancy, Sampa The Great and Gold Fang, and headlined her own tours. In her hands, music and joy become something more radical than entertainment alone, infusing resistance and solidarity into every song and show.
