We open our series with an artist we have been huge fans of for well over a decade - Luke Hess.

Born in 1980 in Metro Detroit and subject to the city's mid-90's warehouse parties, Luke Hess has harnessed a deep appreciation for electronic music and the expression of the underground movement.  His background in mathematics and engineering has given him a scientific approach to the dance-floor, using frequencies, tones, and soundscapes to transform surroundings and mood.

This incredible mix was recorded just a few weeks ago at Kenneth Christiansens "Dub Nation" event at About Blank, Berlin. Luke showcases his skills throughout, with tight, precise blends that he's made his signature. We are truly honoured to have one of our favourite ever artists open this series.

The Frontier 001 - Luke Hess

Soela is the DJ and production alias of Elina Shorokhova, a Russia-born Berlin-based experienced pianist and vocalist who has made a hugely successful transition into electronic music. 
She released her material on such labels as Kompakt, Dial, Shall Not Fade, Lost Palms, E-Beamz, Red Ember Records, Sushitech, and others. With a style that combines house, dub techno, and experimental electronica, Soela is creating versatile tracks and mixes, and collaborating with artists such as Christopher Ledger, Steve O’Sullivan, and Module One.

Another great guestmix was put on the table recently. Someone I didn't recogniced before, but so happy he reached out to me: The Silentist.

This artist is a vinyl collector and DJ from the South West of France, based in Amsterdam since 2017. With a deep love for records that span many genres. And this mix showcases a wide range of music of his very favourite — dub techno.

Some personal words from the artist about this selection: "Spanning over more than three decades of the genre, the set opens with a 1994 classic and closes with a fresh record from 2025, tracing a sonic arc through dub techno's evolution. From the foundational echoes of Basic Channel and Maurizio, through the immersive textures of the 2010s with Prince of Denmark, Wax, and Idealist, to the modern depth of Theef, Hydergine, and Vril — this is a deep dive into the pulse and atmosphere that define the genre.
A slow-burning exploration of space, texture, and rhythm — all on vinyl."

The Silentist for MLD

For over 20 years Martin Jarl was something of an anomaly in my record collection. At the turn of the century, I was largely buying records on the likes of Deepchord, Salz, Nurture, Bluetrain & Minus THX. I'd also been following the emergence of some labels pushing the more minimal sound for a couple of years, the likes of Out to Lunch, Playhouse & Raum...musik. After the closure of Atlas in Soho I habitually shopped in Smallfish; and I remember adding Martin's Weetabix EP to the listening pile. Upon hearing it I immediately bought two copies, and for the next two decades considered it one of my 'desert island discs'. 

By 2024 both copies were hammered and full of surface noise, and what started out as a tentative ask for some wav files, turned into an opportunity to re-release a track from one of my favourite records. Frankly I could've gone for any of the four tracks. Whether Martin knew to what extent or not; including a remaster of the title track in last year's V/A compilation was a really special moment in lempuyang's journey. Naturally I also asked him if he'd be up for recording a mix for the series. Martin is anything but prolific, and good things truly come to those who wait.

LPY Mix Series 19 - Martin Jarl

@quadrantsoundscape are Tommy Harrison and Wilson Logan from Manchester. Together, they are the minds behind the Dub Explorations Mix Series. They also run a series of live events at the famous Eastern Bloc Records. The Dub Explorations Series itself has well surpassed 130 shows, all at least 3 hours in length which is an insight into the dedication they have for hunting underground Dub Techno and Deeper Detroit Tunes to showcase and promote. They have also increased their output with 2 new mix series'. Firstly, 'The Quadrasphere' where many genres are showcased by some very talented artists, and 'The Frontier', which is an invite only mix show.

Icelandic's producer and DJ Ohm, 
has continued to stay true to the spirit of techno. 
Thru the 1990s, Ohm learned a deep foundation of the growing worldwide techno surge that by 1999, 
he felt he was creative and eager enough to start writing his own music. 
Success came quickly with his debut; a collaboration with fellow Icelandic legend Exos on Force Inc records. 
This led to over 20 releases since on standout labels like Thule records, Rawax, Kontakt, Solid Groove., Taped Artifact, Ranges, Vade mecum , 
Vuo records and AE Recordings, and AE recordings Ltd, which he co-ran with Octal Industries and Thor from Thule Records.
A chance meeting in a Berlin records store with Andrey Puskarev and Pola led to releasing some music on the acclaimed All In Records and their sublabel Nilla. Shortly after, 
a release on Andrey's own label Luck of Access with Octal Industries followed. 
Now Copenhagen based, his DJ career is equally impressive having been a regular guest at the hottest spot in his area, Culture Box. 
In the past, gigs at Germany's Tresor along with various places all around Europe to clubs back home in Iceland, 
Ohm's style of DJing is the culmination of over 30 years in the techno scene. Being a beloved personality in the scene, 
Recently, Ohm has started his own imprint, OHM Series. 
This label focuses on having releases that feature a mixture of well-beloved veterans and some vibrant new names pushing techno's sonic boundaries.
Highlighting this balance is a prime example where his techno integrity is the cornerstone of its operation. 
He's blending tried and true techno sounds with techno's next visionaries which we can all agree that is a worthwhile endeavor for the direction. 
Ohm also runs two shows on Timeline music online platform. 
One showcases some of the best Danish artists for the last 2 years and a second show sees him playing the latest promo's he receives from industry connections and friends. 
So, what does the future hold for Ohm? More of it all in short. More new Ohm music productions and remixes. 
More top-notch music on his label OHM Series. More DJ gigs and more online shows. 
More innovating thru his own interpretation of all thing's techno.
