For the nineteenth installment of the Reduct series I took inspiration from the initial series 1 through 9 with its extended hardware sessions, resulting in two 10+ minute dub techno tracks with a vintage flair.

The ambiguous title "NºXX" refers to both the Latin writing for night and number twenty. Much as "Tenth" (Other Heights, 2010) was a closing album for the Reduct series 1 to 9, "NºXX" is a closing album for the Reduct series 11 to 19.

As the reference in the title to night suggests, the music is all about nocturnal dub vibes, weaving through moonlit ambient clouds.

This album started out as a spiritual successor of "Tracing Rays" (Wil-Ru Records, 2013), an album that was constructed using meticulous sound design and processing. A similar approach was used for "Aˈkʷaː.ti.kus", but limited to one piece of equipment: a Nord Wave 2 performance synthesizer, processed with my digital audio workstation of choice, Renoise.

The track titles are in line with the aquatic album title, each of them representing a different zone in the ocean, in order of depth.

As the chords gently ripple through each track, the rhythms shift between various forms, deviating more often than not from traditional technoid drum patterns.

“Spectrum” is a contemporary continuation of the Berlin-school of electronic music. Though the essence of the style revolves around analogue synthesizers propagating melodic sequences, the sequences on this album are constantly evolving using an array of complex sequencing methods.

As the first release on the Trésor D’argent label, “Spectrum” is also the first full length LP by Arjen Schat released on vinyl.

Here it is, the first official release by Minute Of Arc: "Grit EP", packed in a fun-sized minimix especially for Soundcloud. Originally not a MOA project, but it defined the creative process of everything that I have recorded under the MOA moniker ever since. Now you might ask yourself: "Where is all this music you have recorded ever since?". Good question. It hasn't been released, yet. I have been saving/hoarding those tracks for the right moment and format. Turns out I am not patient enough to wait for that, albums and EP's are stacking up as it is, and I want the world to hear them.

These tracks first popped up on my Soundcloud back in early 2014. The “UK Rude Bwoii Cut” of the title track was actually suggested by someone in the comments, I thought that was a great idea and followed through. “Stimuli” and “K-complex” are the result of a mindset that helped shape the Minute Of Arc sound: do what feels right. This often means that these songs are hard to pigeonhole into a genre, but do have a unique flavor to them.

His much acclaimed “Reduct” series made him stand out as one of the top dub techno producers in the Netherlands, and he is still standing strong with a steady stream of releases and remixes on labels throughout the world. Besides dub techno, Arjen has been tailoring the ‘Berlin-school’ sound to his own unique sonic identity, alongside his ever expanding amount of ambient and meditative drone music.
